Weather Patterns and Seasons in the Philippines

I. Introduction

This Learning Activity Sheets will help you identify the different
Weather Patterns and Seasons in the Philippines. The weather we
experience in the Philippines is the hot and dry weather, and the cold and
rainy weather. Unlike other country we don’t have winter, autumn and fall
because we are located near the equator. here are two seasons in the
country, the wet season and the dry season, based upon the amount of
rainfall. Based on temperature, the warmest months of the year are March
through October; the winter monsoon brings cooler air from November to
February. May is the warmest month, and January, the coolest.

In this lesson, you will understand and describe the weather patterns
and seasons in the Philippines.

II. Learning Competency

To describe the two seasons of the Philippines, the wet and dry
season.

III. Objectives

After going through this Learning Activity Sheets, you are expected to:
1. describe the seasons in the Philippines;
2. discuss when the dry and wet seasons occur in the Philippines;
3. Enumerate activities appropriate for the dry season; and
4. Identify activities appropriate for the dry season.
IV. Discussion

Do you consider the time of the year in planning your activities or


outing with your family? Have you ever wonder when the famers plant their
crops? People consider the seasons of the Philippines in planting and in
drying crops or even doing some activities. So today, we are going to talk
about the seasons in the Philippines and the usual activities during those
time.

The Philippine climate is warm and humid year round. It is considered


as one of the healthiest tropical climate. Philippines has only Two kinds of
season, the wet and dry seasons

Wet Seasons

The wet season is characterized by a pronounced rainy season with


thunderstorm. Wet season starts in June and picks in July to September
and then falls slowly towards the end of the year. During wet season, the air
is hot and humid, which brings heavy rain and typhoon in the country.
During the wettest month, rain is an almost daily occurrence. Precipitation (
Rain) is highest in the area where the southwest monsoon strikes. During
rainy season, it is advisable to carry an umbrella, especially in the late
afternoon. Farmers are also able to plant their crops during rainy season

Dry Seasons

The dry season is characterized by hot and cloudless days. Between


January and May, the climate is generally dry with occasional rain showers.
During January to February the air is cold and dry, the peak of the dry
season is in April with less rain showers. The Dry season is influenced by
seasonal wind and northeast monsoon amihan. Northeast breeze from
Siberia and Northern China is cool and dry, chich brings long periods of
cloudless days. During warm days, it is advisable to wera light colored and
cotton clothes to be comfortable. During this season a lot of people go to the
beach and have fun in the sun, it is also the time form some to dry their
crops and other goods.
