For Huawei ONTs with Wi-Fi functions, such as HG8045, HG8045A, HG8245,
HG8245H, HG8245Q, HG8245T, HG8247 and HG8247H, perform the following
steps:
1. Wi-Fi speed relies on the bandwidth provided by the ISP, so the simplest way is
to upgrade to faster broadband.
2. Wi-Fi speed is affected by the Wi-Fi signal strength and quality. Ensure that the
Huawei ONT is far away from interference sources such as TVs, microwave ovens,
refrigerators, cordless phones, and Bluetooth devices, and reduce the number of
obstacles between the Huawei ONT and WiFi devices (such as pads, mobile
phones, and laptops). You are advised to use repeaters to enhance the WiFi
coverage if the area is large.
3. Using the correct radio channel. Generally, the Huawei ONT selects channels
adaptively. If the network is slow or the quality turns poor from time to time, you
can use a WiFi scanner such as WiFi Stumbler or WiFi Analyzer to search for the
optimal channel.
4. To prevent unauthorized network access, log in to the web interface of the
router and select MAC address filtering based on your requirements. For details,
see: 10 How to configure MAC address filtering to prevent unauthorized
network access on Huawei ONT.

Huawei EchoLife ONT include HG8010, HG8010H, HG8045, HG8045A, HG8240,
HG8240H, HG8240T, HG8240W, HG8245, HG8245H, HG8245Q, HG8245T,
HG8247, HG8247H, and router etc.
By setting MAC address filtering, you can allow only your own device to access the
network (whitelist), or do not allow unauthorized devices to access the network
(blacklist), effectively preventing unauthorized network access. Huawei ONTs
support MAC address filtering for wired and wireless networks. The following
describes the two scenarios respectively.
MAC address filtering on wired networks:
(1) Click Advanced Configuration > Security Configuration tab, and choose
MAC Address Filtering in the navigation tree on the left. In the pane on the right,
after enabling MAC filter and selecting the filter mode, click New. On the dialog
box that is displayed, configure the MAC filter rule for the PC to access the
Internet.
(2)Click Apply.
The MAC address lists of PCs in the network are saved on the ONT. Configuring
MAC filter rules enables the PCs that conform to the rules to access the Internet
service or disables the PCs that do not conform to the rules to access the Internet
service. A PC may have more than one IP addresses but a unique MAC address.
Therefore, configuring MAC filter rules effectively controls the Internet service
access rights of PCs in a LAN.

steps:
Wi-Fi protected setup (WPS) simplifies the complicated process of Wi-Fi network
encryption. It can automatically configure the network name (that is, SSID) and
WPA security key. With WPS, users do not need to keep lengthy passwords to
achieve secure connection.
WPS supports 3 implementation modes: push button configuration (PBC), PIN
input configuration (PIN), and AP PIN. In PIN mode, the STA PIN is entered on an
ONT to achieve secure WPS connection. In AP PIN mode, the PIN generated by an
ONT is entered to achieve secure WPS connection.
1. In most cases, the default user name for logging in to the web page is root, the
password is admin, and the IP address is 192.168.100.1. However, for security

2. Click Apply.
3. Press the WPS button on the STA (Wi-Fi client) to search for the WPS network.
4. Hold down the WPS button on the ONT at least 5s and release it. The WPS
indicator is steady on, blinks (maybe quickly, indicating that the WPS connection
starts), and then steady on again (the WPS connection is set up). Then no more
device can be connected to the ONT Wi-Fi though the WPS method. The WPS
indicator is off 2 minutes later. When the WPS button on the ONT is pressed, the
WPS function on the STA must be enabled within 2 minutes.
2. Start the WPS configuration software of the STA, and select the Client PIN
mode (entering PINs on ONTs). The page displays the PIN of the STA.
3. Go to the WLAN Basic Configuration page of the ONT, enter the STA PIN, and
click Apply.
WPS negotiation starts. When the WPS indicator becomes steady on, the secure
WPS connection is set up successfully.

With DDNS, which associates a static domain name with the dynamic IP address
of its host, users on the Internet can access the server only with domain names.
1. In most cases, the default user name for logging in to the web page is root, the
password is admin, and the IP address is 192.168.100.1. However, for security
reasons, the default password or IP address may have been changed before

the ONT, and click Login.
3. Click the Network Application tab and then choose DDNS Configuration from
the navigation tree. In the right pane, configure DDNS parameters, including
Service Provider, Host Name, Service Port, Domain Name, Username, and
Password.
4. Click Apply.
Dynamic domain name service (DDNS) associates a static domain name with the
dynamic IP address of its host.
Assume that server A provides HTTP or FTP service and it is connected to the
Internet using routers. If server A obtains an IP address through DHCP, or server A
is connected to the Internet through PPPoE, PPTP, or L2TP, the IP address is a
dynamic IP address. That is, its IP address may change each time when server A
initializes its connection to the Internet.
The mapping between the domain name and IP address provided by the domain
name service (DNS) server is static, and the mapping does not update when the IP
address changes. Therefore, when the IP address of server A changes, users on the
Internet cannot access server A with domain names.

HG8245H, HG8245Q, HG8245T, HG8247 and HG8247H, perform the following
steps:
1. Exercise caution when using software to access Wi-Fi without permission.
Such software uploads a user's Wi-Fi network information without
notification. Another user can find this Wi-Fi network name, obtain the Wi-Fi
network key from the software server through a 3G or 4G network, and
access this Wi-Fi network without permission.
2. Check whether encryption has been performed for the Wi-Fi network.
Specifically, log in to the ONT web page. On the main menu, choose WLAN >
2.4G/5G Basic Network Settings. In WPA PreSharedKey , do not select
Hide. .

Answer
● For an STA that has the capability of roaming aggressiveness, it automatically
compares the signal strength among detected access points and switches to
an access point with stronger signal strength.
● For an STA that does not have the capability of roaming aggressiveness, if the
ONT finds that the signal strength of the Wi-Fi device is poor, the ONT
disconnects the Wi-Fi device from its current access point and the Wi-Fi device
has to look for an access point with stronger signal strength.
NOTE
The action of Wi-Fi roaming and switching is mainly dependent to the user's Wi-Fi terminal.
Some Wi-Fi terminals will continuously attempt to connect to the access point from which
they had been disconnected rather than looking for an access point with stronger signal
strength. For these Wi-Fi terminals, contact the vendor to resolve the roaming and
switching issues.
Answer
● For buffered services (such as video play), no obvious service interruption is
sensitive to users during the switching.
● For services that are not buffered (such as web browsing), services will be
interrupted transiently (varying based on the user devices and Wi-Fi
environments) during switching and will be restored to normal after the
switching is completed.
The following table lists the reference data of service interruption duration in
various switching scenarios.
ONT to Repeater 8s 9s 8s
NOTE
The actual Wi-Fi switching duration is strongly related to factors including the user terminal
type, operating system type and version, and Wi-Fi chip driver. Interference sources in the
actual environment also need to be considered. Therefore, the data in the preceding table
servers only reference.
User terminal examples in the reference data are as follows:
● IOS device: iPhone 6
● Android device: HuaWei Mate 7
● Windows device: Lenovo YoGa1
Answer
Compatibility between GPON and XG-PON ONTs:
From wavelengths of XG-PON (asymmetric system with upstream rate 2.5 Gbit/s
and downstream rate 10 Gbit/s) and GPON ONTs, if they share the same ODN,
GPON ONTs (Table 51-2 lists compatibility) in the earlier stage require
wavelength block filter (WBF) for downstream isolation because they are in poor
performance in downstream optical signal isolation from XG-PON ONTs.
Otherwise, packet loss or even disconnection may occur caused by signal
interference. Therefore, the WBF needs to be added on the ONT or optical splitter.
Solution
The WBF is added on the optical splitter for GPON ONTs that are incompatible
with XG-PON ONTs sharing the same ODN. Specifically,
Figure 51-2 and Figure 51-3 show specific solutions for live networks.
Figure 51-2 ONTs of different types are connected to the same optical splitter
Figure 51-3 Only early-stage GPON ONTs are connected to the same optical
splitter
Table 51-2 lists compatibility between GPON ONTs and XG-PON ONTs.
NOTE
● The time in Compatibility is calculated from the ONT replacement. Detailed markets
and BOM codes needed to be queried.
● For details, collect the ONT SN and provide it to the Huawei technical support engineer
for querying.
Answer
Table 52-1and Table 52-2 describe meanings of general ONT indicators.

Answer
If an ONT transmits optical signals to upstream at a timestamp that is not
assigned to it, it is called a continuous-mode ONT. Such an ONT is also call the
rogue ONT, which transmits optical signals at any time. When a rogue ONT exists,
● If the rogue ONT is online, one or all of the other ONTs connected to the
same PON port on the OLT go offline or go online and offline frequently.
● If the rogue ONT is not configured, the other ONTs that are not configured
will fail to be automatically discovered.
Enable rogue ONT detection on the OLT. A rogue ONT will be isolated after being
detected.
Answer
If a network cable is connected to two LAN ports of a optical modem, a loop
occurs on the port. A port loop may cause a network storm and service faults. The
ONT supports loop detection. If a loop is detected on a LAN port, the LAN port is
isolated to break the loop.
Answer
It is recommended that no more than 10 devices (including wired and Wi-Fi
