AVI2O Elements of Colour, Shape and Texture in Interior Décor & Design Assignment
Choose ONE room from the floor plan below, identify and implement the Elements of Design to create a presentation board for a potential client. Use
the bolded words below as subtitles to type a one page report that identifies:

 Client: age, profession, colour & style preferences.


WHAT has the client requested of your design that will add to the functionality of the space, as well as their sense of style?
 Colour schemes: the psychological/emotional impact of your choices, and the illusions created by using these colours.
 Source of Inspiration/Theme: or overall attitude/feeling you want to achieve for living space
 Design Challenges: What problems exist with the functioning of the space? How do the room dimensions/size or layout impact your choices?
 Available Light: Identify direction of floorplan (North, South, East, West), HOW does natural light from windows impact your design?
 Function: and purpose of space (frequency of use, number of people using it)
 Focal Point: WHERE and HOW have you created a point of emphasis in the room?

Criteria:
 Neatly organize your information into visual
“blocks” as shown in class example
 Paint chips, carpet & fabric samples, tiles, or
pasted images from magazine, internet,
photos etc. must be neatly secured.
 Text included on your board is concise and
typed & legible for client (easy to read)
 Title & date your board, label each image &
sample
 Colour in, and paste the floor plan on the
front of the board, and make clear visual
references to it (may use a legend, labels or
arrows)
 Attach your one page report to back of board
 Foam core, or cardboard with clean edges
and no print can be used
 Overall, aim for a polished visual presentation

Text is concise, not wordy and well organized into logical “chunks” of information. (2)
Font is legible and free of spelling errors. (2)
Titles & Subtitles are used. (2)
Images are well adhered to board, no peeling, rough or frayed edges. (2)
The original floor plan is coloured, labelled and pasted onto board for client to refer to. (2)

Thinking: (15)
Demonstrates a solid understanding of how colour, texture, shape are used in Interior Design to create a specific attitude, or illusions of space. (5)
Identifies the outcomes of specific choices, ie; the use of warm, intense colour for a vocal point, how natural light affects the illusion of size. (5)
Identifies how design reflects and works with a client’s lifestyle, the size of interior space, frequency of use, and no. of people using the space. (5)
