Aim
This five-day course will provide participants with the skills and knowledge to
perform high voltage electrical switching operations on an electrical network.

Recommended For
Individuals responsible for performing high voltage electrical switching
operations.

Entry Requirements
Individuals must hold a recognised electricity linesworker qualification or
unrestricted electrical workers licence or electrical engineering qualification.

An individual not holding these qualifications can contact Energy Skills


Solutions to discuss their eligibility to attend the course.

Relationship to Training Package


The course aligns to several units in the national UET12 Transmission,
Distribution and Rail Sector Training Package and the UEP12 ESI Generation
Sector Training Package.

On completion of the course, participants will be able to:

procedures when performing switching
• Understand the role and function of electrical network protection systems
and protection devices
• Operate a range of high voltage electrical switchgear
• Develop switching schedules using electrical network schematics and
plans
• Apply the requirements and procedures for safe access to high voltage
electrical apparatus

Delivery
The course is conducted face-to-face in a training room and practical
workshop environment.

A range of high voltage equipment will provide participants with the


opportunity to perform switching in a simulated and safe environment.

The importance of safety is emphasised throughout the course.

Assessment
Knowledge and practical assessments are included in the course.

Participants are issued an on-the-job workbook at the completion of the


course.

The workbook is used to collect and present evidence for assessment. The
completed workbook is submitted to Energy Skills Solutions for assessment
and sign off.

Participants will need to successfully complete both the off the job training and
on-the-job assessment requirements before a Statement of Attainment is
issued.

Certification
The units in the course are nationally recognised.

A Statement of Attainment is issued after the participant has successfully


completed both the off the job and the on-the-job components of the course.

Note: Any prerequisite unit requirements will also need to be met before a
Statement of Attainment is issued.
