AGRONOMIC CHARACTERISTICS Habit of Growth: Erect to recumbent and fast grower. Flowering: Very sparse flowering Leaf Characteristics: It is self trashing. The leaf sheath is green with purple base and presence of only few trichomes. Lamina on the first and second leaf are erect to tip. The succeeding leaves are broad and drooping. Inner auricle is long while the outer is short. Stalk Characteristics: Stalk is medium in diameter (2.7 cm), reddish purple , cylindrical in shape with corky cracks and patches in matured canes. Growth crack is either present or absent. Number of Millable Stalks: 3.0 average per stool at harvest. Reaction to Diseases: Resistant to smut, downy mildew and yellow spot. Maturity: 12 months Potential Yield Comparison with Phil 8013 & Phil 6607 (Ecological Test Data, 1995-96). Of the four Ecological Test conducted for CY 1995-96, Phil 8727 ranked higher to Phil 8013 in terms of sucrose content. On tonnage yields per hectare, the variety significantly outyielded Phil 6607 in La Carlota Mill District.

AGRONOMIC CHARACTERISTICS Habit of growth: Erect to recumbent and fast grower. Flowering: Moderately profuse flowering. Leaf Characteristics: It is semi-self trashing, yellowish green leaf sheath with auricle and moderate trichomes. The leaves are broad and drooping at the center. Stalk Characteristics: Stalks are small to medium in diameter (2.2-2.6 cm), yellow green and waxy. It has cylindrical shape, no bud groove and corky patch. Number of Millable Stalks: 2.92 average stalks per stool at harvest. Reaction to Diseases: Resistant to smut, downy mildew and leaf scorch and moderate to yellow spot. Maturity: 12 months

Data presented were results of Ecological test in four locations, Victorias Mill District, Ma-o, la Granja and Passi. Phil 8829 ranked first among the test varieties in all locations in terms of LKg/TC. With small to medium stalk diameter and average millable stalks of almost three, the variety gave only medium tonnage/hectare but still comparable to Phil 8013 and Phil 6607. AGRONOMIC CHARACTERISTICS Habit of growth: Erect and medium rate of growth. Flowering: Very sparse flowering. Leaf Characteristics: The leaves are narrow, erect with drooping tips. It is semi-self trashing. The leaf sheath are yellowish green with short auricle and has few trichomes. Stalk Characteristics: Stalks are small in diameter (2.02cm), waxy and purplish green. It has cylindrical shape, with corky patches and cracks. No bu d grooves observed. Number of Millable Stalks: 4.47 average stalks per stool at harvest. Reaction to Diseases: Resistant to smut, downy mildew and leaf scorch and moderate to yellow spot. Maturity: 12 months

Potential Yield in Comparison with Phil 8013 & Phil 6607 (Ecological Test Data, 1994-95). Variety Phil 8835 Phil 8013 Phil 6607 LKg/TC 2.29 2.28 2.21 TC/Ha 114 115 106 LKg/Ha 261.00 262.00 234.00

Consistently ranked number four for both LKg/TC and TC/Ha in all test locations. Stalks are small in diameter but have an average of 5 millable stalks per stool at harvest.

AGRONOMIC CHARACTERISTICS Habit of growth: Fast germinator, fast starter, medium rate of growth and erect to recumbent. Flowering: Sparse flowering. Leaf Characteristics: It is self-trashing, the leaf sheath are yellowish green with trichomes. The first and second leaves are erect to the tip and the succeeding leaves are medium and drooping at the center. Stalk Characteristics: Stalks are medium in diameter (2.95 cm), yellowish green, cylindrical shape with corky patch and cracks. Bud groove are predominantly present.. Number of Millable Stalks: 2.6 average stalks per stool at harvest. Reaction to Diseases: Resistant to smut, downy mildew and leaf scorch. Susceptible to yellow spot. Maturity: 12 months Potential Yield in Comparison with Phil 8013 & Phil 6607 (Ecological Test Data, 1995-96). Phil 8943 performed better against Phil 6607 in Ma-ao and La Carlota Mill Districts in terms of sucrose content. Tonnage yield showed significantly higher result against Phil 8013 in La Carlota but comparable only to Phil 6607.

AGRONOMIC CHARACTERISTICS Habit of growth: Recumbent to lodging and very fast grower. Flowering: Profuse flowering. Leaf Characteristics: Non self-trashing. The leaf sheath is green with very few trichomes. The leaves are broad gradually drooping at the center. Inner auricle is usually lng while the outer is short. Stalk Characteristics: Stalks are medium in diameter (2.79 cm), waxy and cylindrical in shape. It is brownish green with long bud groove and aerial roots. Corky patches are present in matured canes. Number of Millable Stalks: 1.87 average stalks per stool at harvest. Reaction to Diseases: Resistant to smut, downy mildew and leaf scorch, but susceptible to yellow spot. Maturity: 12 months Potential Yield: From Ecological Test Data, 1995-96, Average of Nine (9) Locations. Yield (TC/Ha) Sugar Yield Other rendement (LKg/TC) 110.28 218.00 1.99

Data presented were results of Ecological test in nine locations namely: Bais, HPCo, Victorias, Ma-o, La Carlota, SONEDCO, Passi and Pilar. Phil 90-0345 yielded a sugar rendement better than Phil 6607 in Ma-ao, SONEDCO and Victorias. The variety significantly outyielded Phil 6607 in terms of cane weight in Bais Mill District.
