 What I Need to Know

Welcome to another lesson in fourth-quarter Islamic Values 3. This

module contains a lesson that aims to demonstrate the value of
cleanliness in our surroundings.
As we go on, you are expected to:

1. Identify relevant Ahadith about maintaining the cleanliness of the

surroundings.
2. Demonstrate the values of cleaning the surroundings through
coloring pictures.
3. Appreciate the value of cleanliness in maintaining the
surroundings clean.

What’s In
Assalamu Alaykum! Today you will be
learning a new lesson, but before that, I want
you to answer the activity below. Let us see if
you can recall your previous lesson in the
story of Muhammad (S.A.W) Journey to
Sham.

will read a short story about an old woman who threw
garbage. While reading the story you will find out the
value of cleanliness.

The Old Woman Who Threw Garbage

There lived an old woman in Makkah who

did not like Rasulullah (S.A.W.).

Every day, when the Prophet Muhammad

(S.A.W.) passed by her house, she would throw garbage
on him.

However, the Prophet Muhammad (S.A.W.)

never use to complain instead he clean the mess.

One day, when Rasulullah(S.A.W,) passed by

her house, no garbage was thrown on him. He was
surprised and looked around for the woman, but could
not see her. He became concerned and he went to her
house and knock. ”Come in”, the old woman said.

When Rasulullah entered the old woman

was scared. ”Don’t be scared, I went say anything to
you”, the Prophet Muhammad(S.A.W.) said. The old
woman was ill, so the Prophet (S.A.W.) cleaned her
house and filled water for her. The old woman was so
impressed by the good behavior of Rasulullah
(s.a.w.).Despite of her bad behavior to him, that she said
to him, ”O Rasulullah, I want to accept Islam.Rasulullah
was happy. His excellent manners had won our enemy.

These are the values taken from the story.

We focus on cleanliness. How the old woman threw her

garbage?
We must throw our garbage in a proper place or you make
a trash bin so that the garbage will not be scattered in our surroundings
and it looks clean. When our surroundings are clean we are far from
any diseases and viruses.
As Muslim, we have to clean ourselves and our surroundings.
As the Ahadith we have that Prophet Muhammad (S.A.W.) peace be

upon him said, “Cleanliness is half of faith”(“At-tuhooru shat-rool eemaan”).
and (“ Annajafatu nisful Eemaan”).”Cleanliness is part of faith”.
These are the things we need to remember in
maintaining the surroundings clean.

1. Put your waste or garbage in a proper place.

2. Do not use plastic bags.

3. Don’t throw garbage anywhere like rivers and seas.

4. Segregate your garbage.

5. Don’t burn plastic in an open place or public.

6. Make a deep hole or compost fit in your backyard.
