2 minutes and 49 Program Opening/ Intro/ Good day, my dear learners. I am Jenefer Agustina
seconds Program ID P. Magora just call me teacher Jen teaching you
mathematics more fun and easy way. Today, I am
going to discuss about calculating speed, distance,
and time. I am glad to have you back here listening
and viewing with me today. Make sure that you
are comfortably in a place conducive for learning
and where you can listen well to our discussion.
Have you taken already your snacks? It would be
better if you filled your stomach first so that you
will have the energy to listen and understand our
lesson for this entire learning episode, but before
we start, we watch first a video about how to
protect yourself against COVID – 19.
2 minutes and 09 Motivation Before we proceed to our lesson, we watch a
seconds video.
1 minute and 07 Presentation What is the video all about?
seconds -speed, distance, and time (Very Good!)
What else?
-the formula of speed (Great Job!)
-the formula of distance (Wonderful!)
-the formula of time
7 minutes and 15 Lesson Proper Let us begin how to calculate speed, distance and
seconds time. We start for the first example:
“Jeanne Mhike bought a new car. He drove his car
from Rizal to Tuguegarao City with an average
speed of 60 kilometers per hour for 6 hours. How
far did he travel?
Here we ask how far he travelled, which means we
need to look foe distance.
But what is distance?
Distance - is the total length between two
positions.
The units of measurement: kilometer (km), meter
(m), Centimeter(cm), millimeter (mm).
To solve by the distance, we simply multiply by
speed and the time.
Speed = distance
time
A car travels 150 km in 3 hours. Find the speed of
the car.
Again, to solve the speed, speed is distance divided
by time.
Here in our problem the distance is ...GREAT JOB!
Is 150 while the time is 3 hours.
Then let us solve 150 divided by 3 is ….
WONDERFUL! is 50. And the unit of measurement
would be kilometer per hour. Therefore, the car
travels 50 km/hr.
Then let us have another example. Find the speed
when, distance is 280km and the time is 4 hours.
Again, to solve the speed we are going to divide
distance by time.
Here in the given problem the distance is 280 km
and the time is 4 hours.
Then 280 divided by 4 is …. WONDERFUL! is 70. so,
Time = distance
speed
Now let us go and solve our problem. A bus
travelled 252 kilometers at 72 km/hr. How many
hours did it travel?
Again, to solve the time, we have time is distance
divided by speed. Here in our problem the distance
is … WONDERFUL! it is 252 kilometers while the
speed is 72 km / hr. Now let us solve, 252 divided
by 72 is …. GREAT JOB! it is 3.5 hours. Since we
have two units of kilometer we simply cancel
because km divided by km is 1.
Therefore, the bus traveled is 3.5 hours.
How long does it take to travel 180 km at 45
km/hr?
This time we need to solve for the time,
Again, to solve by the time we simply divide
distance by the speed.
Here the distance is 180 km and the speed is 45
km/hr.
Now, let us solve 180 divided by 45 is….
WONDERFUL! it is 4 hours. And now let us cancel
kilometers therefore our unit is hours.
2 minutes and 21 Application Solve the following problems:
seconds 1. Jane drives at an average speed of 60 kilometers
per hour on a distance of 150 kilometers. How long
does it take her to cover her distance?
Speed: 60km/hr
distance: 150km
Time = distance
speed
= 150km
60 km/hr
Time = 2.5 hr
Therefore, Jane takes 2. 5 hours to cover 150 km.
2. You rode your bike 24 kilometers and travelled
at approximately 2 hours. What is your average
speed?
Distance = 24 km
speed = distance
time
time = distance
Speed
1 minute and 31 For your Information A fast-moving object has a high speed and covers a
seconds relatively long distance in a short amount of time.
Contrast this to a slow-moving object that has a
low speed and covers a relatively small amount of
distance in the same amount of time. An object
with no movement at all has a zero speed.
1 minute 8 seconds Evaluation Solve the following problems:
1. A bus travels with a constant speed of 80
kilometers per hour. How long will it take to travel
a distance of 320 kilometers?
2. A car traveling at an average speed of 100
kilometers per hour made a trip to a certain town
in 7 hours? What is the total distance traveled by
the car?
18 seconds Assignment A bus leaves the bus terminal at 1: 00 in the
afternoon. A high-speed bus leaves the same
terminal an hour later. It travels at an average
speed of 95 kilometers per hour. The second bus
follows the same route as the first bus on a way
parallel to the first. In how many hours will the
second bus catch up with the first bus?
Is it possible to increase your speed to reach your
destination on time? Why or why not?
