SKF Bearing Life Cycle - Buy a bearing
• Undamaged packaging
• Store in dry area
• Constant temperature
- Not against cold walls or floor
- Not against heating pipes or in
direct sunlight
• Do not use chemicals to remove
the anticorrosive film
• Box should be stored flat
• Protect box against damage
• After cleaning protect against corrosion
• Store in vibration free area

Induction heating advantages
© SKF Group
Principle of induction heating
• An induction heater is similar to a
transformer with a primary coil with a
large number of windings, and a
secondary coil with a few windings.
© SKF Group
Some considerations using induction
heating
• ΔT component & shaft: +90 °C (162 °F)
• The temperature of the component has
to be max 110-120 °C (230 – 248 °F)
• Always demagnetize
• All SKF induction heaters for mounting bearings are equipped with
automatic demagnetizing cycles.
© SKF Group
SKF Induction Heaters
common features
• Innovative design
• Induction coil outside the heater housing and
enhanced power electronics for fast heating
and low energy consumption (up to 80%)
• Foldable support arms for large diameter
bearings.
• Swivel/sliding yoke for large yoke
(TIH 100m and 220m only)
• Internal yoke storage

“5R good lubrication programme”
The right lubricant, in the right amount, reaches the right
point at the right time using the right method
Incorrect intervals
• under-greasing
• over-greasing
Contamination
• impurities can mix with the lubricant
• poor handling (e.g. dirt on grease fitting)

Lubrication
• The right
lubrication method
© SKF Group
Typical lubrication mistakes
Wrong lubricant choice:
• Problematic: people lubricate more (they think that
solves the problem); excessive leakages etc.
Over-greasing:
• Problematic at high speeds:
internal heat generation

Increased energy consumption due to misaligned shafts
Practical example:
• Motor - 10 kW
• Energy cost 1 kWh = € 0.10

Dismounting

Dismounting
Important issues when dismounting:
• Safety
• Quick dismounting
• Dismounting without damaging housing or shaft
• Dismounting without damaging the bearing
• Sometimes bearings are dismounted with the intention to be
remanufactured or re-used. In this case, selecting the correct methods
and tools is essential in reducing the risk of bearing damage
