RINA Membership Application Form
The Royal Institution of Naval Architects enjoys an outstanding reputation for the quality and range of its
publications, including its technical journals, and conference proceedings, covering all aspects of the maritime
industry. The Institution also organises an extensive and successful programme of international conferences,
seminars and training courses covering a broad range of experience and opinion on research, development and
operation in all technical aspects of the maritime industry.
Those who are involved in the design, construction and maintenance of marine vessels and structures in a
technical capacity, and who have achieved the required standards of professional competence required for
Corporate membership of the Institution may apply to become Fellows or Members and enjoy the following
benefits and services:
• Up to date information on technical developments in the maritime industry and on Institution events
through the Institution’s journals and eNewsletters.
• Free subscription to the Institution’s leading technical journals - The Naval Architect, Warship
Technology, and Offshore Marine Technology. Free trial subscription to the journals Ship & Boat
International and Shiprepair & Maintenance. Free subscription to the eNewsletters - The Naval
Architect eNews, Ship & Boat eNews, Offshore Maritime Technology eNews and Shiprepair &
Maintenance eNews.
• Free access to technical papers published in the International Journal of Maritime Technology, the
International Journal of Small Craft Technology, and the International Journal of Marine Design.
• Access to library and meeting room facilities at Headquarters. Access to the eLibrary.
• Opportunity to meet and exchange views with other maritime industry professionals at local Branch

member of the Royal Institution of Naval Architects, I will be bound by its By-Laws and Code of Professional Conduct.
If elected, I agree that the Institution may hold personal data provided by myself, to be used only in connection with
membership and Institution activities. I also agree that I may be sent notification of such activities, together with
information on technical developments in the maritime industry through the Institution’s eNewsletters. I understand that I
may stop receiving such notifications at any time.

Application Form
All applicants are required to complete all sections of the Application Form and sign the Declaration in Part 2.
The application should be typed or completed in Block Capitals.
Academic Qualifications
Photocopies of academic qualifications need not be enclosed unless requested.
The Professional Review Report should be written in chronological order, typed on A4 and be between 3000
and 5000 words. Diagrams and photographs may be included in amplification of the written report.
The reports of candidates for transfer or election to Fellow need only cover the previous five-year period.
Reports of associate members who have completed an accredited or approved company or individual training
scheme need only cover the positions held and responsible experience gained in those positions.

Proposers
Candidates should normally be proposed by two members who are Fellows, Members or Associates, and to
whom the candidate is personally known. Where the signatures of members cannot be reasonably obtained,
the application may be proposed by persons in positions of responsibility who can verify the information
provided.
