• Over 2 million disabling injuries every year

• A person dies in a crash every 40 minutes

• Motor vehicle accidents are the most common cause of death

• 1 in 4 fatal work injuries involves a vehicle accident


What is Defensive Driving?
“Driving to save LIVES, TIME and MONEY in spite of the conditions around you and the
actions of others . (NSC)
Traffic rules
• Traffic rules are guides to safe driving, so they should be
obeyed.

• Disobeying rules is a major cause of traffic accidents.

• Defensive drivers obey the rules of the road.

• By following them they insure the safety of everyone.


Vehicle Inspection

Just as safe driving is the responsibility of each driver, so is the condition


of the vehicle.

If your assigned vehicle is not safe to drive, it doesn’t matter how


defensively you drive. You are an accident waiting to happen.

Intersection Stop Sign
At intersections controlled by stop signs, stop your vehicle completely behind the crosswalk. Look
left, look right, look left again, proceed cautiously
Following Distance
• You are at a safe stopping distance behind a vehicle at a traffic light if you can see that vehicle's
rear tires.

• Use the 3 Seconds Rule when judging your distance from the vehicle in front of you.
CELLPHONE

• No driver to use mobile phone while driving.

• No phone calls to be made or received by the driver while vehicle is on the move.

• Driver to have passenger answer phone calls or park in the safe place if calls are important
and needed to be answered.
Types of Accidents to Avoid
Six common situations hold the potential for vehicle accidents:

1) Vehicles ahead of you.


2) Vehicles behind you.
3) Passing a vehicle.
4) When being passed.
5) Oncoming vehicles.
6) Vehicles at intersections.
Accidents costs money…
When you are involved in an accident you will be spending money on
vehicle damages and repairs, hospital costs, insurances, legal fees etc.
