&TOPCON INSTRUCTION MANUAL
CHART PROJECTOR
CP-5DINTRODUCTION
‘This instruction manual has been prepared for Model CP-5D TOPCON Chart Projector with variable
focusing objective.
Sharp, clear test characters of superior definition and great contrast are projected with the
time-proven TOPCON optical design, in combination with a very efficient reflector and the high
revolving power objective. All working controls are concentrated on the front of the instrument for
maximum efficiency end simplicity of operation.
Furthermore, the test charts can be easily detached, end therefore, rearranged for customized test
presentations, and well as being replaced by test charts of your own selection.
Please study the manual to ensure best use of the instrument before attempting to use it.
IMPORTANT
READ BEFORE TOUCHING THE INSTRUMENT
Never touch the lens or test chart surfaces with your fingers or any hard object.
2. Clean off dust and/or dirt on these surfaces with blowerbrush or ear syringe or by dusting with a
clean, soft camel hair brush.
3. Never use the instrument in a room which is constantly dusty, damp or has a strong direct
sunlight falling on the instrument.
4, Always protect the instrument with its dust cover, when not in use, but first always let the
instrument cool down first before covering it.
Check that the voltage printed in the electric bulb is the same as the available power supply.
6. Exchange or attach an electrical plug if the plug connected to the electrical cord is unsuitable or
if it is not attached. Follow instructions in “Exchanging or Attaching Electrical Plug.”CONTENTS

2-1 Positioning the Projector
* This description is written on assumption
that you bought the Table base.
(1) Mounting base
Connect instrument and yoke by fixing shaft,
the lightly and tighten temporarily with the
fixing handle.
(3)
(2) How to take off the holding tape. Push the
button like the figure and open the rear cov-
er. Take off the tape fixing the lamphouse.
(4)
Remove the knobs of marks fixed at both
side of selector slide in that i
Insert the selector slide in the insertion inlet
on the right of the instrument so that the
marks fixed the selector slide may come on
the screen.
Then fasten knobs as originally.
Inserting slide
Slide is inserted by setting the wider side of
the plate downwards, and aligning it with the
slide insertion inlet. Check whether slide
moves up and down by turning up-and-down
handle.(5) Setting instrument
The variable fucusing objective of the Model
CP-5D TOPCON Chart Projector permits the
projector to be positioned at the following
projection distances relative to the refracting
distance:
Refracting Distances | Projection Distances
3 meters 2.40 to 3.30 meters
4 meters 3.00 to 4.25 meters
5 meters 3.60 to 5.20 meters
6.1 meters 4.30 to 6.25 meters
For example, from the above table, it can be seen
that the Model CP-5D Chart Projector can be
positioned at projection distance from 3.60 to
5.20 meters when the refracting distance is deter-
mined as 5 meters, because the variable focuing
objective can be adjusted for obtaining the exact
size required for 5 meters refracting.
The refracting distance is the distance from the
patient’s eyes to the projection screen and is,
normally, @ distance chosen between 3 to 6
meters. The required refracting distance may be
obtained by folding the light path from the pa-
tient to the screen with a mirror which may be
found necessary when the refracting room is
small.
‘The projection distance is the distance from the
projector to the projection screen and is deter-
mined by the refracting distance. In.the case of
the Model CP-5D, some shortening or lengthen-
ing of the projection distance is possible because
of the variable focusing objective, as can be seen
from the previous table.
The projection distance may also be folded by
means of a mirror when the refracting room does
not have sufficient space for straight projection.
NOTE: If the refracting distance is folded, the
projection distance must also be folded, as other-
wise the projected image will be observed re-
versed. When both distances are folded, howev-
er, double reversal takes place and the projected
image is observed normal. First or front surface
mirrors must be used for folding the refracting
and projecting distances, in this case, as other-
wise there will be a decrease in image quality.
(6) Focusing
* Turn the main switch ON and check that
the lamp lights.

* Wave the center of projection show at
about center of the screen.
* Loosen the second objective fixing screws
a little, move second objective a little for-
ward or backward focusing to the projec-
tion plane.

(7) Tightening all fixing sections
* Fix and tighten the First and Second
Objective screws.
* Marking sure that the projection view is at
the center of the projection screen, tighten
and fix fixing handle,
2-2 Basic Operation
(1) Slide
Have the required chart appear by turning
up-and-down handle.
(2) Selector Slide
If you want a column of vertical characters to
appear, move it to the left or right when the
red/green test is performed.
(3) Horizontal Selector
Move the lever downward when you want to
bring out a row of horizontal characters.3. CARE AND MAINTENANCE
3-1 Exchanging the Projection Lamp
(1) Removing burned-out lamp
* First turn main switch OFF.
* Open the cover at the back by pushing
button.
Button.
* Remove the lamp cover by moving it in
the order of (A) and @) in the arrow direc-
tion shown in the figure.
bi)
* Remove the burned-out lamp by turning
counterclockwise while pushing tube for
lamp exchange putting the tube over the
lamp.
(2) Inserting new Lamps
* Turn the new lamp clockwise while
pushing.
* At this time do not touch the lamp directly
by hand. Use tube for exchanging lamps.
However, if any fingerprints remain, wipe
off using alcohol, ete.
3-2 Exchanging or Attaching Electrical Plug
If it is found necessary to exchange the electrical
plug or if the electrical plug has not been
attached, in the first place, because of special
electrical regulations or for some other reason,
keep the following points in mind when attaching
the new plug.
The electrical cord has three internal wirings
which are colored black, white and green. The
black and white wirings should be connected to
the AC. terminals of the plug while the green
wiring should be connected to the grounding
(earthing) line, when there is provision for
grounding (earthing). Otherwise, cut the green
wiring at its very end so that it cannot contact the
other two wirings inside the plug.
For certain markets, the three internal wirings will
be colored blue, brown and a bias-striped green/
yellow, with the last wiring being the grounding
line.
3-3 General Use
The instrument must be protected from dust,
especially as dust on the test chart surface will be
projected enlarged on the screen.
At the 5 meter standard refracting distance, the
dust will be projected 13.5 times enlarged on the
screen and make it rather difficult to read the test
chart.
Furthermore, all lens surfaces inside the instru-
ment, as well as the glass surface of the test
charts, should also be protected from water or
moisture, as well as dust, and should not be
touched with bare fingers. Fingerprints and mois-
ture of any kind on these surfaces will lead to
mildew and mold and, therefore, should be eli-
iated as soon as they are discovered. The lens
surface must be wiped off, as soon as possible, in
such cases, with a well-washed unstarched cloth
or @ good lens cleaning tissue paper (but do not
use silicon-treated eyeglass cleaning tissue pap-
ers). But, before doing so, first, blow off or brush
off any minutes dust particles, as otherwise you
will simply rub them into the lens surface,
Furthermore, when wiping the lens surface, do
not rub but wipe I'shtly, as many times as neces-
sary, until the fing srprint or waterdrop is elemin-
ated.
Since dust and moisture are particularly harmful
to the instrument, always use it, as well as store
it, in a room which is not dusty but which is
well-ventilated and dry.
To protect the instrument, always cover it with its
dust cover, when not in use, after waiting for it to
cool off.4. BEFORE REQUESTING
