Grade Level: 3 Core Content: 1.1 Functions of Sense Organs
1.2 Ways to keep the sense organs healthy

The learners demonstrate understanding of parts and functions of the


Content Standard sense organs of the human body.

The learners should be able to describe the parts and functions of the

Competencies

Students must be able to:

Intended Learning C- Select the 5 sense organs of the body and emphasize its functions.
Outcomes
A- Recognize the importance of sense organs in the body by
highlighting how these senses help them in everyday life.

P - Demonstrate the functions of the sense organs and how these


senses should be taken care of by making a skit in front of the class.

Performance The learners should be able to practice healthful habits in taking care of

Strategy: Topic: Living Things 1.1 Humans 1.1.a Sense Organs

Functions of each organ and ways on how to take good care of it.
Procedure:
The teacher will show flashcards of the different body parts and let
A. Elicit the students pick what body part they want. She will explain to them
( 5 min) the actions needed to perform in every body part. Afterwards, she
will shout a random flashcard word (e.g. “hand”) with an action (e.g.
“hand-wave and say “hi”). All the students who pick the flashcard
with a hand printed to it have to do the said action which is to wave
their hand and say “hi”. The teacher will continue with other words
and the students will do their corresponding actions:

Hand- wave and will say “hi”

Eyes- blink and will say “beautiful eyes”

Nose- sneeze and will say “achoo!”

Tongue - as if they were chewing something and will say “delicious”

Ears- wiggle and will say “I can hear you”

Head- snap their finger and will say “I feel good”

Eyelash- blink 3 times and will say “I am beautiful”

Lips- smile and will say “happy everyday”

Example:

The teacher will shout “hand”. Those students who pick the
flashcard with a hand printed to it have to do the said action
which is

to wave their hand and say “hi”.

Just like this.


B. Engage The students will answer the following questions:
(5 min)
1. Describe your chosen parts of the body.

2. Are these parts important in your body?

3. When you wake up in the morning, what are the first things you
see? Hear?
Smell? Touch? Taste?

The teacher will group the students into 5 groups and will present the
rubrics for the activity.Students will be asked to prepare the materials
C. Explore needed. There are 5 stations for this activity, and each group is tasked
(15 min) to do the learning activity assigned to them.Given situations will help
them identify the appropriate sense organ to use. They will take note of
their findings and prepare to present it in the class.

Station 1: Identify and Draw

A picture will be shown on the screen. The students will draw the fruits
that correspond to the assigned color of their group.

The teacher will play a song,and students will Identify the lyrics being
sung in the song.

Station No.3 : Taste Station

The teacher will show pictures and ask students to prepare their own
foods. Students will taste their assigned foods and will take note of what
it tastes like.

Group 5: Chocolate

Station No. 4: Texture Station

The following picture will be presented on the screen. Then they will be
asked to touch the materials assigned to them.

Group 1: Rough

Group 3: Bumpy

Group 4: Hard

Group 5: Smooth

Station No. 5: Scent Station

The teacher will ask the students to display the following item. Students
will close their eyes and smell the items one by one. After, they will be
asked to pick and raise the items that correspond to their assigned
scent. Then, they will describe it

Group 1: Liniment Oil

Group 2: Soap

Group 3: Alcohol

Group 4: Perfume .

Group 5: Coffee

Do you like the smell of the items? What part of the body helps you pick
the right scent?

Each group will present their discoveries about the activity present on
D. Explain the screen. They will make creative skits based on their
(10 min) discoveries.Then, each group will have an opportunity to present for 2
minutes or more to describe their observations and responses to the
activity.

The teacher will emphasize that these body parts are called sense
organs. The functions of the five sense organs.
The students will answer the following questions:

1. How many sense organs do we have? Are these sense organs


important to us? Why? Or why not?

2. How important is the sense organ in your daily life?

3.What are the roles or functions of each sense organ?


● What are the functions of the eye?
● What is the function of the tongue?
● What are the roles of the ears?
● What exactly does the nose do?

4 Based on the activity 4,you are asked to touch the object so you can
feel the texture. If you were restricted to touch the object can you still
identify its texture? Why or why not?

E. Elaborate The teacher will provide clarifications of how we properly use our sense
(10 min) organs and how important it is in our daily lives.

Let the pupils view a video for additional information of what are the
sense organs and how to take care of them.

F. Evaluate
(10 min) The students will be given a 10-item quiz for the teacher to evaluate
their understanding of the lesson.

G. Extend The teacher will let the students look at their surroundings and identify
(5 min) what they can smell, see, hear, taste, and touch. With their pencil and
paper, ask them to sketch the identified things they can smell, see,
hear, taste, and touch. Afterwards, ask them to describe what they
sketch using their senses and fill out the table.
