Key Facts:

According to CNN,

- The European Union is an international organization made up of 27 European


countries.
- It governs common economic, political, social and security policies of its member
states.
- The objectives of the European Union are to establish European citizenship,
ensure freedom, justice and security, promote economic and social progress,
and assert Europe's role in the world.
- The United States is the European Union's main trading partner.
- The member states delegate sovereignty to the EU institutions to represent the
interests of the European Union as a whole.

Mandate: The European Union policies aim to ensure the free movement of people,
goods, services and capital within the internal market, enact legislation in justice and
home affairs and maintain common policies on trade, agriculture, fisheries and regional
development.

Key Structure:
In the EU's unique institutional set-up,

 the EU's broad priorities are set by the European Council, which brings together
national and EU-level leaders

 directly elected MEPs represent European citizens in the European Parliament

 the interests of the EU as a whole are promoted by the European Commission,


whose members are appointed by national governments

 governments defend their own country's national interests in the Council of the
European Union.

Key Obligation: EU has developed the aim to "promote peace, its values and the
well-being of its peoples". The EU has political institutions, social and economic
policies, which transcend nation states for the purpose of cooperation and human
development.

Enforcement: The aims set out in the EU treaties are achieved by several types of
legal act. Some are binding, others are not. Some apply to all EU countries, others
to just a few. With regards to regulations, a "regulation" is a binding legislative act. It
must be applied in its entirety across the EU. For example, when the EU wanted to
make sure that there are common safeguards on goods imported from outside the
EU, the Council adopted a regulation.

Key clauses: Strengthening Europe’s democratic processes by enhancing relations


with the European Parliament and national parliaments, protecting EU democracy
from external interference, ensuring transparency and integrity throughout the
legislative process, as well as engaging more widely with EU citizens in shaping the
EU’s future.
Conclusion

The European Union mainly focuses on promoting peace, values and the
prioritizes the well-being of its citizens and as well as offering freedom, security
and justice without internal borders. It also strives to manage out a sustainable
development based on balanced economic growth and price stability, a highly
competitive market economy with full employment and social progress, and
environmental protection. With regards to its members, the EU continues to
create strategies to combat social exclusion and discrimination. It also aims to
promote scientific and technological progress among its member-states. Most
especially, the organization aims to enhance economic, social and territorial
cohesion and solidarity among EU countries with respect to its rich cultural and
linguistic diversity. All these leaps established a stable international regime within
the Union as a whole.
