FAMILY HEALTH HISTORY

FAMILY STRUCTURE AND DYNAMICS

Family Structure

The family was composed of five siblings, there are four sons and one daughter with

their parents, and this was supported by his statement, “Lima kami nga manag utod pero

napatay ang lalake ko nga magulang, so ako ang gatindog nga magulang sa amon kay

ako ang ikaduha sa mag utod” Si papa nag untat sa pagka sundalo tungod sa family

problem pero naga paning-kamot gihapon sya nga makaubra para sa amon pamilya

para may pang gastos, kay si mama wala ubra tungod sa pandemic. Ang babaye ko nga

manghud my asawa na siya. Puro mga lalake na lang ang nabilin. Sang una didto kami

naga istar sa ila ni lola. Gin baligya nila mama kag papa ang balay sa amon nga tiya.

Subong sa Cebu si mama kag si papa sa Bohol kag na patindog didto sang balay namon

nga bag-o.”

Family Dynamics
The family members were getting along so well. His siblings who is still doesn’t

have their own family are staying with their mother and father. Troy loves to help his

mother in doing household chores. Angelito and his family have their small family

bonding by talking about each other’s happy moments throughout the day. The family

loves to hear Angelito’s cracking jokes because it is like a stress reliever for them. When

his brother Esmeraldo visits them, he gave an amount of money for them to buy their

needs at home.

Decision Making

In the family, his mother always made the most of the decisions in their home.

She decides on what to do in the house, what are the things that is needed in the

house since she has no work and she only focused on the needs of their family.

SOCIO-ECONOMIC AND CULTURAL CHARACTERISTICS

Socio-Cultural

Angelito and his family lives in Poblacion, Vallehermoso, Guihulgan, Negros

Oriental. The family has a good relationship in their neighbors. Their neighbors

shared their food with them when there’s an occasion, and they were invited in

wedding, fiesta, baptism, etc. The family celebrate fiesta during the 16th of May.

But Angelito is not celebrating with them since he is an Adventist. “Si mama kag

papa nag back side sila, wala na sila ga Simba” as verbalized by Angelito. Most

of the family members go to church on Sunday while Angelito is active member

of the Seventh Day Adventist Church and soon to be Christ missionary. But, after

what happen to Angelito, his parent goes to Seventh Adventist church with him.

Economic

Vicente Narbay earned with approximately 2,500 pesos every month as a self-

employed. From Esmeraldo he earned every month with approximately 15,500

pesos, and another approximate 3,000 to 5,000 pesos per day from Elpe Narbay

with a total of 90, 700 per month of their income. The Total expenses with

approximately 5, 726 pesos.

HOME ENVIRONMENT

A. Housing

Adequacy of Living Space

 The family occupied a two storey house that was approximately 80

meters2 of land. The first floor is made up of concrete hollow blocks, with

2 separated rooms bordered by fly wood are covered with a thin curtain and

have rusty projecting nails. While, the second floor was constructed from a

variety of materials, including fly wood, bamboos and nipa with only one

room. And a storage room where they placed their clothes and valuable

things. The family's home includes a dining table that can fit the entire

family. There are 5 windows, which allowed for ample outside air and

light ventilation. The kitchen was found outside at right side of their house

with the approximate distance of 4 meters, beside that there was a CR. For

their domestic animals “may ara kami gina sagod nga mga baka, manok,

kanding kag iban pa” specifically 50 goats, 3 cows, and more than 30

chickens and roosters. “kag damo diri bukong sang lubi nga pwede

maistaran sang mga lamok”. Flies, and cockroaches are present

Sleeping Arrangement

Their mother Cristina has own room while their children shared the other 2

rooms, each room has two king size bed. Inside their room there’s a cabinet, at the corner

there was a clothesline were some of their clothes were hanging. And Angelito Narbay is

in the other room since he came back out from the hospital. The others sleeps in the

living room.

Kitchen, Food Preparation and Storage

The kitchen was separated 4 meters away from the house “Kay ka gamit kami sang

kahoy’’ Angelito said if they put it inside their house. “Kag bisan pa bay-an mo ang

gatong hindi masunog ang balay” he added. It was made half of concrete; bamboo and

their kitchen roof were metal aluminum. Basically, they used methane gas (gasul) when

there’s an occasion in their house. They have large Tupperware’s for their leftover foods

and put it inside the small cabinet. The utensils, plates and glasses were arranged

properly in place.

Water Supply

The water supply was abundant, “Wala ga untat kag mag hinay ang tubig sa

gripo, daku nga bulig ang suba gamit sa pang inom sang mga kasapatan kag

panglaban sang bayo” Angelito stated. The water in the suba was clean, and their

neighbors do their laundry as well. The water source was from the HINAWASA,

and distributed through faucets for washing the dishes and bathing. The water

was directly potable to the kitchen and the CR. They buy drinking water to near

water station, with a distance of 30 meters away from their home.

Toilet Facility

The family’s toilet was concrete, bowl was clean, non-flushed typed basin.

Their floor was made of cement and it’s rough. Cristina cleaned it every day, with

powder and Zonrox bleach. It was their family’s comfort room they have a bucket

and dipper so can take a bath there.

Waste Disposal

They dig a large pit, to store the plastic waste. They gather bottles and

cans in order to sell them and profit from it. The manure from cows, goats,

and chickens is collected, dried outside, and the biodegradable waste is

removed and used as plant fertilizer.

Drainage system

They manually made their drainage system and was only a shallow dug-out

ditch that leads to a small canal outside of the house. The used water from

laundry, dishwashing, and the bathroom was drained through the small ditch that

leads to the canal, but there was a building of mud that prevents that flow of

water.

B. Kind of Neighborhood

The distance between the family's home and its neighbors is roughly 10

meters. The majority of homes were made of nipa and bamboo, but some were

made of concrete. Everyone there knows each other “kilalahay na kami tanan sa

amon lugar, kabuliganay kami. Kon my birthday gina imbitahan kami kag

hataganay sang pagkaon” Angelito stated.

C. Social and Health Facilities Available

They have a gym, inside that there’s a basket court and stage where people in

the community gather and play games together like basketball and volleyball. The stage

was used when there’s a pageant show during fiesta. Also, they have a health center

supervised by the midwife that can accommodate health service in community such as

prenatal and labor for the mothers and tetanus vaccination. Once a year the doctor with

the nurses have medical mission, free dental and circumcision was given to the

community.

D. Communication and Transportation Available

Most of the family members have their Android cellphones and other gadgets except

their father Vicente. Also, Angelito has an iPad for his online class. As for the

transportation, they ride on the habal-habal a motor cycle rider that brings you to want

place you want. There were five sound system in the road, it’s available anytime. The

announcement was given directly from the barangay captain through this channel the

announcement was easily spread to the people in the community. “May ara man kami

nga paradahan para kon maka sakay kami dali Lang pakadto sa balay” as verbalized by

Angelito. “pero kon gusto namon makaabot sa balay sa habal-habal kami ga sakay.” he

also added.

HEALTH STATUS OF EACH FAMILY MEMBERS

1. Current Illness

A. Flu

Angelito Narbay was suffering from cough almost a week, “Gina trangkaso ko halin

pa tong isa ka simana, isa napud ka simana akon ubo pero kagabii kay perti gid ya akon

ubo, tapos ga malangaang ko sugod kagabii”, he added, madala pa man na sa tubig kag

pahuway, saka na ipa hospital kung hindi ko na kaya, wala man abi kami dre bulong sa

balay para sa ubo kag lagnat, as verbalized by Angelito Narbay. The student nurses

checked his temperature and resulted that he has a fever with body temperature of 38.1

B. Heart Disease

Vicente diagnosed heart disease last year 2021,” naka experienced siya chest pain

or tightness of heart sa iyang heart” as verbalized by Angelito Narbay as verbalized by

Angelito. He was given a medication by his doctor but after a month he stopped taking it.

Until now Vicente didn’t visit to the hospital for his consultation.”

C. Weak Immunity

“Si Nanay naga eksperyinsya sang kaluya sang lawas kay kadasig saiya malatnan

kung may naga trangkaso’’ as verbalized by Angelito.

D. Bone Fracture

“Si Troy may gina batyag nga gabusog saiya nga kamot tungod sang una nga nag

saka siya sa puno ka kahoy sing Star apple kag nadagdag, nabali na ang iya nga

kamot,” Angelito said.

2. Nutritional Assessment, Habits, and Practices

A. Dietary History

In their family, approximately they consume 32 cup of rice per day because they are

7 members in their family. Sometimes they buy food outside because the other members

of the family aren’t Adventist and they will buy pork to satisfy their cravings. For their

24 hours diet recall; in the morning, they usually just have a mixed vegetables in their

table and some dried fish for appetizers, at noon time they ate Chicken with some

vegetables and a lot of rice. During dinner they only ate less only vegetables and rice.

Angelito really likes to eat vegetables, he seldom eats meat when only there is an

occasion.

“Usahay Kun indi sila maka uyon sa sud.an, mag bakal sila ug baboy nga sud.an

kay kini sila mga Catholic ug ako lang isa nga Adventist sa amon pamilya.” As Angelito

said.

B. Eating Habit practices

Angelito was always the one who initiate to pray for the food before they eat and

they washed their hands before and after meals. After eating their food, there is a person

who is assigned of washing the plates and other things need to fix after eating. And after

that, the next time another person will be assign in cooking. That’s their habits.

C. Health Habits, Values, and Practices

They took a bath every morning and brushed their teeth twice a day. Angelito

gargled a mouth washed every morning before he eats breakfast and after he eats, he

uses toothpaste and toothbrush to avoid tooth decay. In the evening after work, they

usually have time to relax and take a half bath. Angelito always read devotions during

sunrise to sunset, since he is the only member of Seventh Day Adventist of their family.

Activities and Exercise

Angelito does physical exercise every morning. He loves to walk 20 minutes in the

morning. At night he goes to the gym and played badminton with his friends. During

weekend he washed his clothes, cleaned his room, and cooked his own food.

Elpe Narbay also does physical exercise since he was a fitness instructor at the Gym.

But now he was working at Kyro Home Service Massage.

Adequacy of Rest

As Angelito’s sleeping pattern, he rested every 8 hours and wake up at 4-5 in

the morning. Christina’s adequacy of rest was approximately 7-8 hours. When she

finished all her house chores, she usually slept around 9-10 pm and she usually

woke up at 5 am and prepared breakfast and took care of her children. While

Vicente Narbay slept around 10-11 pm and he couldn’t sleep well due to his

insomnia, and wakes up around 3-4 am every morning.
