Lesson Plan in Mathematics 7-Operation On Sets
Lesson Plan in Mathematics 7-Operation On Sets
Content Standards: The learner demonstrates understanding of key concepts of sets and the real number
system.
Performance Standards: The learner is able to formulate challenging situations involving sets and real
numbers and solve these in a variety of strategies.
Learning Competency: The learner illustrates the union and intersection of sets and the difference of two
sets
CODE: M7NS-Ia-2
I. Objectives:
At the end of the lesson, 90% of grade 7 students should be able to:
a. Define and describe the union and intersection of sets;
b. illustrate difference of two sets and complement of a set; and
c. Use Venn Diagram to represent set operations.
III. PROCEDURE
A. Preliminary Activities:
Prayer
Greetings
Checking of Attendance
B. Developmental Activities/Review:
Review of the past lesson
Motivation:
D. Teaching/Modeling: (I do)
Intersection of Sets
The intersection of Set A and B, written A ∩ B, is the set containing the elements that are both A
and B. Venn diagram
Example:
A={ 1,3 , 5 ,7 , 9 }
B={ 2 , 3 ,5 , 7 , 11 }
Joint Sets
A ∩ B={ 3 , 5 ,7 }-Common elements
A={ 1,3 , 5 ,7 , 9 }
B={ 2 , 4 , 6 , 8 , 10 }
A ∩ B={}
Disjoint Sets
Union of Sets
The union of sets A and B, written A ∪ B , is the set of all the elements that are in A, or in B, or in both A
and B. Ven Diagram
Example”
A={ 1,3 , 5 ,7 }
B={ 1,2 ,3 , 4 }
A ∪ B ={ 1 , 2, 3 , 4 ,5 , 7 }-Combining the elements
Complement of a Set
The complement of a set A, written A’, is the set of elements in the universal set that are not in A.
Example: U={ 1 , 2, 3 , 4 ,5 }
3. A ∩C =
4. C ∩ D =
5. . B∪ D =
6. U ={ 2, 4 , 6 , 8 , 9 ,10 }
IV. EVALUATION

_____________________2. The set of school days in a week.
_____________________3. The set of versatile actresses.
_____________________4. The set of all oceans of the earth.
_____________________5. The set of months containing 31 days.
_____________________6. The set of tasty food.
_____________________7. The set of planets in our solar system.
_____________________8. The set of durable bags.
_____________________9. The set of consonants in the English Alphabet
_____________________10. The set of even counting numbers.
V. ASSIGNMENT
Find the cardinality of the following sets.
___________________1. Set A is the set of days in a week.
___________________2. Set B is the set of letters in the word “recognition”.
___________________3. Set C is the set of even numbers less than 2.
___________________4. Set D is the set of odd numbers between 3 and 9.
