Lesson Plan in Mathematics 7-Operation On Sets

This lesson plan teaches 7th grade mathematics on sets and set operations. It defines union, intersection, and difference of sets. Students will practice using Venn diagrams to represent set operations and determine the elements and cardinality of given sets. The lesson includes objectives, materials, procedures, examples, practice problems, and an evaluation to assess student understanding.

sets

CODE: M7NS-Ia-2

I. Objectives:
At the end of the lesson, 90% of grade 7 students should be able to:
a. Define and describe the union and intersection of sets;
b. illustrate difference of two sets and complement of a set; and
c. Use Venn Diagram to represent set operations.

II. SUBJECT MATTER

 Checking of Attendance

B. Developmental Activities/Review:
Review of the past lesson

Motivation:

D. Teaching/Modeling: (I do)
Intersection of Sets
The intersection of Set A and B, written A ∩ B, is the set containing the elements that are both A
and B. Venn diagram
Example:
A={ 1,3 , 5 ,7 , 9 }
B={ 2 , 3 ,5 , 7 , 11 }
Joint Sets
A ∩ B={ 3 , 5 ,7 }-Common elements

A={ 1,3 , 5 ,7 , 9 }
B={ 2 , 4 , 6 , 8 , 10 }
A ∩ B={}

Disjoint Sets
Union of Sets

The union of sets A and B, written A ∪ B , is the set of all the elements that are in A, or in B, or in both A
and B. Ven Diagram
Example”

A={ 1,3 , 5 ,7 }
B={ 1,2 ,3 , 4 }
A ∪ B ={ 1 , 2, 3 , 4 ,5 , 7 }-Combining the elements
Complement of a Set
The complement of a set A, written A’, is the set of elements in the universal set that are not in A.

Example: U={ 1 , 2, 3 , 4 ,5 }

A={ 2 , 4 } C={ 1,2 ,3 , 4 , 5 }

B={ 2 , 3 , 4 } D={}
A’={ 1,3 , 5 } C’={}
B’={ 1 ,5 } D’={ 1,2 ,3 , 4 , 5 }
E. Guided Practice: (We do)
Let’s Try!

A={ 1,3 , 5 ,7 } C={ 2 , 4 , 6 , 8 }

B={ 2 , 3 ,5 , 7 } D={ 2 , 3 , 4 , 5 }
1. A ∩ B=
2. A ∪B =

3. A ∩C =

4. C ∩ D =

5. . B∪ D =

6. U ={ 2, 4 , 6 , 8 , 9 ,10 }

IV. EVALUATION
