Mwakima, CBS Principal Secretary State Department for Vocational and Technical Ty Ministry of Education NAIROBI Dear Ps, RECRUITMENT OF KENYAN YOUTH TO WORK ON BOARD ROYAL CARIBBEAN CRUISE VESSELS ‘As you may be aware, the State Department for Shipping and Maritime working together with the Oceans and Blue Economy Office in the Cabinet Office has, for the last several years, been working tirelessly to build opportunity for Kenyan youth to work in the cruise and merchant shipping industry. To date, we have secured opportunities for over eight hundred Kenyans who are currently working on board foreign cruise and merchant shipping vessels. ‘The impressive performance by these Kenyans on board these vessels has attracted other cruise shipping lines to start recruiting from Kenya, Currently, Royal Caribbean Cruises (RCL), which is among the largest cruise shipping lines globally, is already recruiting here in Kenya, They have already recruited over two thousand Kenyans who are at different stages of the pre-embarkation process. RCL and her associated companies have opportunity for thousands of additional jobs on their ships and faciliti In this regard and to enable us tap into this reservoir of quality jobs for our youth, we have developed an enhanced programme of recruitment across the country. We therefore plan to use the following national polytechnics to serve as the regional centers for the recruitment as follows; Rift Valley Technical Training Institute Kisumu National Polytechnic Sigalagala National Polytechnic Rift Valley Institute of Science and Technology ‘Nyeri National Polytechnic Coast National Polytechnic Meru National Polytechnic Machakos Polvtechnic RNa R EDS The recruitment exercise at these centers is proposed to run from 25" July to 4% August for the first three centers and thereafter the exercise will resume on 23 August up to 8" September 2022 for the second phase. The recruitment programme is designed in a way that will sensitize and expose the training institutions to the skills sets and competencies required in the cruise shipping industry. It is expected that these institutions together with your Ministry will subsequently align with the skills set required for this market segment to ensure the country has a sufficient talent pool to be recruited in the subsequent programmes. The recruitment process is expected to remain in continuance and will cover housekeeping, food and beverage, store and gulley utility, beauticians, masseuse, fitness instructors, life-guards, security personnel, shop attendants (for the hospitality industry) as well as deck and engine crew, electro- technical officers and ratings among others. The purpose of this letter is therefore to request for your support and have this information brought to the attention of your relevant institutions. We also seek release of Mr. Japheth Ngeno and Mr. Peter Bor, whom you released to join us in the preparatory meeting to liaise and support the exercise. Yours QUAT Qu Se NE rae Mrs. Nancy W.
