For hearing impairments, it recommends not facing the blackboard when speaking, being aware of obstacles for lip readers, and using interpreters and handouts. It warns that without education, social withdrawal and fewer opportunities may occur. For visual impairments, it suggests using Braille and verbal explanations. HAWASSA UNIVERSITY

COLLEGE OF SOCIAL SCIENCES

ASSIGNMENT ON INCLUSIVENESS

Name

1. Eyoel Nebiyu ID Mgmt/0165/12

Submitted to:Mr.Misahun S.
For the Hearing impairement

1. How can we educate people with hearing impairement?

Do not speak when facing the blackboard. Be aware that mustaches, beards, hands, books or
microphones in front of your face can add to the difficulties of lip-readers. Students who lip-read
cannot function in darkened rooms. You may need to adjust the lighting in your teaching
environment. If a sign interpreter is employed, follow the hints for working with a sign interpreter.
It is difficult for a student watching an interpreter to also take notes from an overhead or blackboard.
An interpreter is unable to translate concurrently both your words and any information given on an
overhead. It is important therefore that all information should also be available as handouts.
Any videos or films used should, where possible, be captioned. When this is not possible, you will
need to consider alternative ways for students with hearing impairment to access the information.
2. What will be the consequences if we do not educate them?

If a child with hearing loss is excluded from social interactions or is unwilling to participate in group
activities due to fear of embarrassment, the result is that she can become socially withdrawn, leading
to further unhappiness. Children with hearing loss are also slower to mature socially, which hinders
peer relationship

3. What will be the consequences if we exclude them from all walks of life?

 fewer educational and job opportunities due to impaired communication

 social withdrawal due to reduced access to services and difficulties communicating with
others
 emotional problems caused by a drop in self-esteem and confidence.

4. What support they demand for work, education and living daily life?

 Speak clearly and don’t shout

 Reduce the distance between you and the person
 Rephrase the sentence

5. What is your role as an individual and group to create inclusiveness?

1
 Create inclusive classrooms
 Design accessible communities
 Make workplaces inclusive

For the Visual impairment

1,How can we educate people with visual impairment?

Braille is a system of raised dots that people can feel with their fingers and that represent letters and
words for people who are blind or have severe low vision. Many children who are braille readers and
have additional disabilities learn the alphabet in braille. You and other family members and friends
can also learn braille so that you’re able to braille notes, labels, and other items for your child and
read what he may have written.
2,What will be the consequences if we do not educate them?
The presence of a visual impairment can potentially impact the normal sequence of learning in
social, motor, language and cognitive developmental areas. Reduced vision often results in a low
motivation to explore the environment, initiate social interaction, and manipulate objects.
3,What will be the consequences if we exclude them from all walks of life?
Vision loss can affect your physical health by increasing your risk of falls and your quality of life,
and it can also have a big impact on your mental health. Loss of vision has been linked to loneliness,
social isolation, and feelings of worry, anxiety, and fear.
4,What support they demand for work, education and living daily life?
 Supplement visual material with clear verbal explanation.
 Require less copying from the board or elsewhere.
 Increase oral activities.

5,What is your role as an individual and group to create inclusiveness?

The key to an inclusive work environment is making sure each employee feels included, and this is
exactly where many companies lose momentum. You need true commitment from everyone, every
day and throughout an organization, to create a culture that feels inclusive.
