Shearkey

This document summarizes the design of a shear lug according to Australian standards AS 3600 and AS 4100. It provides assumptions about load transfer and material properties, performs calculations to check for concrete bearing strength and lug plate thickness, and summarizes that the lug plate thickness is the critical failure mechanism with a design ratio of 0.5 and an overall check of PASS.

SHEAR KEY DESIGN TO AS 3600 & AS 4100

Calculation description
1. This calculation is for the design of a shear lug in accordance with AS 3600 & AS 4100

Assumptions
1. Total shear force can be transferred in bearing by the use of shear lug
2. No transfer of shear force is considered through grout. Hence, effective depth is the concrete embedment
3. Maximum shear value to be considered in one direction at one time
4. Shear key to be welded with Full Penetration butt weld
5. Shear key is assumed to be fixed at two adject edges and other two edges free
References

2. AS 4100 (1998): Steel Structures
