This standard has been formulated to comprehensively address the special issues associated with the design of reinforced | conerete tal buildings, whose design is governed not just by structural safety aspects, but also by serviceability aspects, especially under the conditions of wind effects. This standard has therefore been formulated to cover these aspects celating to reinforced concrete buildings otheight greater than 50 m, but ess than or equal to 250 m. This standard provides prescriptive requirements For design of reinforced concrete tal buildings, The following salient aspects, which are based on the prescriptive approach, are addressed inthis standard 2) Stctural systems tht can be adopted in tall bullings b) General requirements including; (1) height limitations of diff@rent structural systems, (2) elevation and. plan aspect ratio, (3) lateral def (8) store sifess and stent, (5) density of buikings (6) modes of vibration, (7 floor systems, (8) materials, ind (9) progressive collapse mechanisms; ©) Wind and seismic effects: (1) load combinations, al(2) acceptable serviceability criteria for lateral accelerations, vy 4) Methods of structural analysis to bappted, ang Seton properties (in racked and uncracked sates) of reinforced concrete member to be busderedT gals, ©) Structural design aspeets for v cable structural systems; igh of foundations; and ath pgaitoring 1) Issues to be considered in d 2) Systems needed for structural Buildings that do not follow the Féquirements of this standard [for example, buildings with height exceeding the limits specified in this standart, buildingg Whose height exceeds the maximum suitable height specified for a Particular structural systemsor use of ay other (irregular) lateral load resisting steuctural system), and those buildings that are not covered by this standard, shall be deemed to be code-exceeding tall concrete buildings. Such cvode-exceeding tall concrete buildings shall require a performance-basedl design approach to demonstrate that the performance of the building meets at least that intended by the prescriptive design code provisions laid down in this standard, For such code-exceeding tall buildings, Annex A provides design and approval processes. The Committee responsible for the formulation of this standard has taken into consideration the views of users, ‘engineers, architects, builders and technologists, and has related the standard to the practices followed in the country in this field. Also, due consideration has been given to the coordination of this standard with the corresponding international standards prevailing in different regions ofthe world In the formulation of this standard, assistance has been derived from the following publications: JG) 3.2010 Technical specifications for concrete structures of tall buildings, Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development of the People’s Republic of China ACI 318 — Building code requirements for structural concrete, American Concrete Institute ASCE 7-10 — Minimum design loads for buildings and other structures, American Society of Civil Engineers Academic & Science ASTM C-1202—Standard test method for electrical indication of concrete’s ability to resist chloride ion penetration, American Society for Testing and Materials EUROCODE 2-EN1992-1-1 — Design of concrete structures, European Committee for Standardization.
