Introduction

An online examination system is a computer-based test system that can be used to conduct
computer based tests online. Using an Online Examination System has many benefits. Here are
some benefits of online examinations over paper-based examinations which should convince you
to start using an online examination system . Many educational institutes now are using
technology to make processes like Admissions, Examinations, Fee Payment, etc. available online
so that they are streamlined and can be tracked easily. Online learning or E-learning is fast
gaining ground as an accepted and used learning paradigm.More and more school institutions are
implementing web sites providing functionality for performing E-learning and examinations over
the web. It is reasonable to say that the process oflearning on the web is becoming commonplace

Problem of Statement

proposed my perception of the system, in accordance with the problems of existing system by
making a full layout of the system on paper. I tallied the problems and needs by existing system
and requirements. I was further updating in the layout in the basis of redefined the problems. In
feasibility study phase I had undergone through various steps, which are described as under:
How feasible is the system proposed? This was analyzed by comparing the following factors
with both the existing system and proposed system.

As much as most local institutions of learning have embraced E-learning to raise the bar and so
as to cope with the ever growing number of learners (students) very few institutions have
adopted an online examination system, in fact little has been done in development of online
systems. A lot of resources (time and money) are wasted since students have to move from
place to place to do exams. Time and man power is also wasted as setting and marking of the
exams is done manually. The purpose of on-line exam system is to take online test in an efficient
manner and no time wasting for checking the paper. The main objective of on-line test simulator
is to efficiently evaluate the candidate thoroughly through a fully automated system that not only
saves lot of time but also gives fast results. For students they give papers according to their
convenience and time and there is no need of using extra thing like paper, pen etc.

General Objective
 The general objective of Online Examination System
is to create a platform for online creation,actual sitting and marking of exams.
b) Specific Objectives
 
 
 Enables the Admin to create subjects to be undertaken by student.

 Enables the Admin to create Test conductors.

 Enables the Admin to create students.

 Enables the Test conductors to create subjects to be undertaken by students.

 Enables the Admin to create tests to be undertaken by students.

 Enables the Test conductors to create tests to be undertaken by students.

 Enables the Admin to create Questions to be undertaken by students.

 Enables the Test conductors to create Questions to be undertaken by students.

 Enables the Admin to manage exam results.

 Enables the Test conductor to manage exam results.

 Ensures timing of student tests.

 Ensures exams are marked correctly.

 Enables students to check their marks online.


Reason for the Project
An online exam provides flexibility and security to the examination process. Once all the
questions are uploaded in the system, the system can shuffle and give questions in different
orders to different students. This minimizes the chance of cheating.

However, this is not possible for a paper-based exam, the paper cannot be printed differently for
every student, and thus it gives leeway for malpractices.

There is also a possibility for the paper to get leaked while passing it to different examination
centers, this risk is mitigated by the use of an online examination system.

2. Quick Result Processing


In an online exam, the results are calculated instantly and accurately. 

In a paper-based examination, there are a lot of steps involved, resulting in the paper evaluation
process to take up a lot of time and making it prone to human errors.

3. Get rid of Examination Centers


In an online examination system, the exam can be conducted wherever the candidate is. The
exam surveillance can be conducted with the help of a web camera and microphone. Such a
method of conducting an exam is called Remote Proctoring.

When an exam is conducted remotely, hundreds of thousands of students can appear for the
exam, without the need to spend on travel and accommodation.

This also solves the problem of scheduling exams across various exam centers, hiring
invigilators, providing security to these centers, etc.

4. Reduced Logistical Costs


In an online exam, the logistics cost is minimum. Examination Process is managed using
technology. It is beneficial when you are looking to conduct the exam for multiple candidates at
different locations.

The result processing is also done online and hence the logistics cost is limited.
In a paper-based exam, the logistics cost is high, since a lot of factors like exam centers, hiring
invigilators, etc, has to be considered. Question papers, answer sheets need to be delivered at
designated exam centers within a defined timeline.
Also, there needs to be a system to collect back answer sheets from all exam centers to a central
location for further processing.
