Task4 Jefferson Castrillon 174 PDF

Jefferson Castrillón Cárdenas is a student at the Universidad Nacional Abierta y a Distancia with an ID number of 1143950526 studying English. For his speaking task, he discusses environmental problems associated with the use of pesticides and fertilizers. While some argue pesticides and fertilizers increase agricultural production, others believe they damage the environment. Jefferson believes controls are needed for crop prosperity but should be biodegradable and environmentally friendly to minimize ecosystem impacts. Certain illegal crops should also be eradicated. Large chemical companies should invest in healthier alternatives to help farmers. Excessive use can contaminate groundwater so alternative friendly substances are needed. Raising awareness in schools is important so future

oil spill - poor air quality - extreme weather - water scarcity – sustainable
environment - Pollution - Flooding - Oil spills - carbon footprint - melting
ice cap - wind power - drought - Fracking - forest fires

Item a: There is a global water crisis, water scarcity and drought

have left to 844 million people lacking access to clean water.

Item b: Oil accidents at sea can cause oil spill which contaminate the
ocean water resulting in the death of sea birds and other forms of marine
life

Item c: growing trees, plants and your own vegetables help contribute to
a sustainable environment

Item d: Fracking or drilling on the ground for oil and gas, often
contaminates the water supplies.

Item e: Increase Flooding is a consequence of deforestation which is

the cutting down of too many trees.

Item f: One of the most common forms of renewable energy is wind

power which is electricity generated by wind turbines.

Item g: Air pollution and poor air quality is a big problem in many
cities around the world

Item h: extreme weather includes tornados, cyclones and extremely

high or low temperatures.

Item i: Cars and planes burn fuel, when you travel by plane or car, you
contribute to the burning of fuel; this is your carbon footprint

Item j: Polar bears living in the artic are impacted by the melting ice cap

Item k: forest fires seem to be hotter and worst every summer.

SCRIPT
Hello everyone, my name is Jefferson Castrillon, my Id number is 1143950526, I live in Cali, I am studding
Electronical Engineering, also I am technologist in industrial instrumentation, and I work in an
Automatization Company here in Cali.

I am going to talk about “Environmental problems associated with the use of pesticides and fertilizers”. This
topic has many conflicting opinions, some people argue that the pesticides are useful in agriculture, they
serve to control weeds, insect infestation and diseases, also the opinion of this people defend the fertilizer
because these substances allow agricultural producers to obtain a better production. The opinion against this
is in total disagreement with the use of this type of substance because these destroy life in many ways.

My opinion focuses on the agricultural field, because it is necessary to control the crops for their prosperity
in the harvests, remember that without this control we would not have enough food from the field to feed
our families daily. It is true that many of these chemicals should have biodegradable and environmentally
friendly properties, in order to have less impact on our ecosystems. In addition to this, I believe that certain
illicit crops that generate so many social and environmental inconveniences should be eradicated.

The human mind has led us to evolve in many aspects, and I think it is necessary that the large companies
that produce this type of chemical should invest their strength in finding healthier measures to help farmers
with their crops. Clearly, we should not damage the environment with the excessive use of these substances
because we can contaminate the groundwater, so the solution for this big problem in Colombia is looking
for an alternative substance, more friendly to the environment. The young people should learn this topic
since the elementary school, so after that, we can think different and better for the environment. I invite you
to think about it and do the things for the correct way.

Thank you everyone. I hope you enjoying with my opinion about this topic.
