Science 6 DLL q1wk2d1

The document is a lesson log from Mrs. Evangelina R. Romasanta's 6th grade science class. The lesson is on mixtures and their characteristics, specifically distinguishing between solutes and solvents in solutions. The students will do an activity where they observe how different substances dissolve in water. They will identify the solute and solvent in solutions like carbonated drinks, coffee, sea water, and vinegar. The goal is for the students to understand that the solvent is the substance that dissolves another substance, with water being a universal solvent.

ENGAGE/
EXPLAIN water. Sugar solution consists of two components, namely, sugar and
water. In general, solute is the substance that is being dissolved and
solvent is the medium in which solute is dissolved.
Today, you will do an activity that will help you understand the
difference between solutes from solvents.
We will find the answers to your questions by doing the activities .

Activity 1: ABRACADABRA

Problem: How do solvents work?

Materials:
four glasses filled with water, salt, powdered juice, tissue paper, small basin
with Water, spoon, detergent, sugar, black pepper

Procedure:
1. Put one tablespoon of sugar in a glass filled with water. Stir with spoon and
observe. Do the same with the salt, powdered juice, and black pepper in
separate glasses.
2. Place the bar of detergent in a basin with water. Place also the tissue paper
beside it. Leave it for a few minutes.
