Daily Lesson Log

1. The document describes a lesson plan for an Earth and Life Science class on plate tectonics and how it leads to the formation of folds and faults. 2. Students will conduct an activity where they fold and pull apart strips of clay to observe how pushing and pulling causes deformation, representing tectonic plate movement. 3. The lesson aims to explain how plate tectonics causes earthquakes and results in different surface features through discussion and a multiple choice assessment.

HIGH SCHOOL
Teacher: Learning EARTH AND LIFE SCIENCE
DAILY LESSON LOG Area:
Teaching Date February 24,2021/ Quarter: 2nd
/Time: 2-3 PM.

I. OBJECTIVES

A. Content Standards
Plate tectonics

B. Performance Conduct a survey to assess possible formation of folds and faults that your
Standards community may experience.

C. Learning The learners explain how the movement of plates leads to the formation of folds
Competencies/Objectives and faults.
Write for the LC code for
each S11/12 ES-Id- 22
II. CONTENT Deformation of the Crust

III. LEARNING
RESOURCES
A. References
1. Teacher’s Guide pages
2. Learner’s Materials
pages
3. Textbook pages Earth and Life Science for Senior High School, pp. 75-77
4. Additional Materials
from Learning Resource
(LR) portal
B. Other Learning
Resources
IV. PROCEDURES
A. Review previous Review on folds and faults
lesson or presenting the How folds differ from faults?
new lesson
B. Establishing a purpose What are the different features you see on Earth’s surface? What do you think
for the lesson have caused these formation?

Show pictures on single mountains, rolling mountains, plains and deep valleys.
Ask the learners:
What did you observe on the mountains, plains and valleys?

C. Presenting Do the activity; Folding and Faulting, Part 1 and 2

examples/instances of
the new lesson The learners will observe the following;
What happened to the clay strips as they were pushed from the opposite ends?
What happened to the length of the clay strips before and after pushing?
What did you observe on the clay strip when you pull it apart?
D. Discussing new Introduce important terms that the learners will encounter. Have them define in
concepts and practicing their own words what they know of the terms.
new skills #1
E. Discussing new Briefly discuss how the movement of plate tectonics leads to change in Earth’s
concepts and practicing surface features or formation of folds and faults.
new skills #2
F. Developing mastery Do Pair - Question and Answer

What does the strip of clay represent?

Why did the strip of clay behave that way?
How will you describe the structure formed after the ends were pushed together?
What did you observe on the clay when you pull it apart?

G. Finding practical Connect the lesson to real-life, problem or question.

applications of concepts
and skills in daily living Have the learners watch the news on strong earthquake of Magnitude 6.5 that
shook the island of Samar and vicinity particularly in northwest of San Julian
Eastern Samar.

Ask the learners;

Find out how does plate tectonics movements cause earthquake?
What was the cause of the M6.5 earthquake?
What should be done by the affected communities?

Report your findings to the class

H. Making The movement of plates is due to interaction of great forces that has resulted in
generalizations and the formation of various surface features of the Earth. These can be observed from
abstractions about the the tilt, bends and breaks in the layers of the sedimentary rocks. Plate tectonics is
lesson the fundamental mechanism that driven the geological processes on Earth.

I. Evaluating learning The learners answer a Multiple Choice Test

1. At what type of plate boundary do shallow-focus earthquakes occur?

A. Convergent B. divergent C. transform D. all of these

2. Which of the following is not a divergent plate boundary?

A. the Great Rift Valley of East Africa

B. the East Pacific Rise
C. the San Andreas fault
D. the Mid-Atlantic Ridge

3. At convergent plate boundaries where oceanic and continental crust meet

_________ .

A. no associated volcanism occurs

B. oceanic crust is subducted
C. continental crust is subducted
D. oceanic crust is created
4.Stretching stresses, basaltic lavas, and shallow earthquakes are associated with
______ .

A. subduction zones
B. continent/continent convergence
C. spreading centers
D. transform boundaries

5.Partial melting and the production of magma takes place at ________ .

A. divergent plate boundaries

B. ocean-ocean convergent plate boundaries
C. ocean-continent plate boundaries
D. all of these

J. Additional activities for Ask the learners;

application or Locate the places where possible formation of folds and faults in your locality or
remediation in the Samar Province. Describe the topography of their location.

V. REMARKS

VI. REFLECTION

activities for remediation
who scored below 80%.
C. Did the remedial
lessons work? No. of
learners who have
caught up with the
lesson.
D. No. of learners who
continue to require
remediation.
E. Which of my teaching
strategies worked well?
Why did these work?
F. What difficulties did I
