GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS:
1. This is a group activity. Groupings will be done at random for this one. You also need to
have a Zoom meeting as you accomplish the tasks and insert images (at least 3) here.
The Zoom meeting link (Google Drive – make sure that the video is downloadable)
should be submitted here.
2. Choose the appropriate OS for you group (Windows 7, 8 or 10)
3. Identify your OS by inserting a picture or screenshot of the OS that you will be using.
4. Answer items that fit your OS of choice.
5. Insert pictures on items where you need to perform an action while answer those items
with questions (in blue font). Your responses/answers must be in ALL CAPS.
6. This is a group activity. You need to name ALL members of your group below and their
attendance (present/absent) when the activity was held. I am hoping that you will be fair
in the attendance. Also, make sure that your submission is in PDF format to avoid
distortion of the pages upon submission to Canvas.

Lab 6.1 Examining Memory Resources Using Device Manager in Windows 7/8
Objective:
To be able to view memory resources currently being used by Windows 7 or 8
Parts:
A computer with Windows 7 or 8 installed and rights to use Device Manager
Procedure:
Complete the following procedure and answer the accompanying questions.

1. Power on the computer and verify that Windows loads. Log on to Windows using the known
user ID and password or one provided by the instructor or lab assistant.

2. Access the System and Security Control Panel. Under the System section, select the Device
Manager link.

3. Click the View menu option and select Resources by type. Expand the Memory section by
clicking the arrow  beside the option.

4. Right-click the first memory address shown. Select Properties.

Procedure:
Complete the following procedure and answer the accompanying questions.

1. Power on the computer and verify that Windows loads. Log on to Windows using the known

2. From the Start button in the Search the web and Windows textbox, type device and click the
Device Manager Control Panel link from the resulting list.

3. Click the View menu option and select Resources by type. Expand the Memory section by clic

Procedure:

1. Access the System and Security Control Panel. Select the System link.

2. On the bottom-left side, select the Performance Information and Tools link.

3. From the left panel, select the Advanced tools link.

4. Select the View advanced system details in System Information link. Note that an alternate way
to do this is to type msinfo32 in the Search programs and files textbox and press .

Procedure:
Complete the following procedure and answer the accompanying questions.

1. Windows 8 and Windows 10 make it harder to get to the System Information Tool than
previous operating systems, but you can still use a command to access it. From the search
textbox, type msinfo32 and press ENTER .

Procedure:
Complete the following procedure and answer the accompanying questions.

1. After logging on to a Windows 7 computer, press the CTRL+ALT+DELETE keys and select


the Start Task Manager link.

2. Access the Performance tab.
