Lesson Plan in Philosophy

This lesson plan introduces students to the importance of studying philosophy. The objectives are for students to 1) identify the importance of studying philosophy 2) appreciate the importance of having a sound philosophy in life, and 3) write a reflection on their personal philosophy. The lesson will involve reviewing past lessons, group sharing, lecture, and discussion. Students will formulate their own personal motto and write a reflection. The importance of studying philosophy is that it leads to a broader understanding, helps understand oneself and others, acquaints one with philosophical thinkers, and gives satisfaction and guidance.

Introduction to the Philosophy of Human Person


“Importance of the study of Philosophy”

Learning Competencies: 1.1 Distinguish a holistic perspective from a partial point of view
( PPT11/12-1a-1.1 )

I. Objectives:

At the end of the 60-minute period, at least 90% of the student should be able to:

1. Identify the importance of studying philosophy


2. Appreciate the importance of having sound philosophy in life.
3. Write a reflection on their personal philosophy.

II. Learning Content/Subject Matter: “Importance of the study of Philosophy”

A. Reference:

Javines, Romeo R., Philosophy of Human Person. Revised Edition. Educational Publishing House
Inc., 2009), p.5-6

B. Materials:

metacards, white board,white board marker, chalk

C. Strategies:

1. Review of previous lessons


2. Group sharing
3. Question and answer through individual recitation
4. Lecture and discussion
5. Formulating a personal motto and writing reflections

III. Procedure:

A. Preliminaries

1. Prayer
2. Checking of Attendance
3. Classroom Management

B. Review and connect the previous lesson

C. Lesson Proper

Motivation:
1. The Class will be divided into 10 groups (4 students per group)
2. They will share using the question (maximum of 10 minutes):
 What is your favorite motto in life? Why?
4. The teacher will asked four to five volunteers to share their personal motto in life.
C. Presentation of Learning Objectives

D. Discussion:

Importance of the study of Philosophy

1. Philosophy leads us to a broader understanding of human and experience.


2. Philosophy serves man a better understanding of himself and his fellow human beings.
3. Philosophy acquaints a person to various philosophical thinkers of the past and of his time.
4. Philosophy gives man satisfaction.
5. Philosophy will guide him in making day-to-day decision of life and experience.
6. Philosophy gives other sciences a sense of meaning.

E. Developmental Activity:

The students would formulate their own personal motto in life in a sheet of paper.
(5-7 minutes).
Share it to one of their set mates.

F. Synthesis:

“Philosophy opens our minds, broadens our perspective in life and gives us wisdom to live”

IV. Evaluation:

The students will answer the following question (1/2 crosswise- 10 minutes)

1. Can you consider your formulated personal motto a sound philosophy? Why?
2. In more than 5 sentences, why do you need to have a sound philosophy in life?

Content of reflection - 8 points


Coherence of thoughts - 5 points
Grammar - 3 points
Total 15 points

V. Assignment:

The students should do research to answer the following questions. (1/ 2 crosswise)

What is Opinion?
What is Truth?
What are the differences between Opinion and Truth?
