DISCUSSSION
AQUIRING
Overview
Today, the concepts of technology can be viewed directly to what we do in our day
to day activities. We cook our meals using eco -burner and currently using the microwave
technology.
EDUCATION according to Albert Einstein, it is not the learning of facts, but the
training of mind to think.

Below are the various definitions of the terms:

Technology
 From Greek words “techne” (art, craft or skill) and logie (words, study, or
body of knowledge) (https://placing.wordpress.com).
 Technology is commonly thought of in terms of gadgets, instrument,
machines and devices and most educators will d efer to technology as computers
(Moffoletto (1994).
 A mix of process and product used in the application of knowledge. It
includes tools from pencil and pape r to the latest electronic gadgets and tools for
practical tasks (Bilbao, Purita P., et.al, 2019).
 The application of scientific knowledge to the practical aims of human life
or, as it is sometimes phrased, to the change and manipulation of the
human environment. (https://www.britannica. com/ technology/technology ).
Education
 “educare” which means to lead forth (http://eduhutch.blogspot.com).
 Involves intentional and systematic study, guidance and support from other
and other from an institution, along with changes in one’s ability and knowledge
(Spector, 2016).
 Culturally organized system of social relationship in which, its centr al
function, where teachers provide systematized learning experience for the other member
of the society (Bertand Alvin L. 2000).
 A social process – a process of living and not a preparation for future
living (Dewey 2016, https://infed.org/mobi/).
Educational Technology
 The study and ethical practice of facilitating learning and improving
performance by creating, using, and managing appropriate technological processes and
resources (Association for Educational Communications and Technology).
 An integrated set of principles that explain and predict observed events
(Jonassen, et.al. 1999).
 A field study which is concerned with the practice of using educational
methods and resources for the ultimate goal of facilitating learning process (Lucido and
Borabo (1997).
Information Technology (IT)
 Refers specifically to technology, essentially hardware, software and
telecommunications networks. It is thus both tangible (e.g servers, PCs, routers and
network cables) and intangible (e.g. softwares) (Ward and Peppard 2002).
 NCC defines IT as the totality of the means employed to systematically
collect, process, store, present and share information. It encompasses computers,
telecommunications and office systems technologies, as well as the accompanying
methodologies, processes, rules and conventions.
Information and Communications Technology (ICT)
Includes any communications devices and products that connect the users to
other users using network hardware, satellite systems, e -learning software and so on, as
well as various services such as online learning, videoconferencing and other related
services. (Vasquez, Eduardo, 2011).
Instructional Media.
Instructional Media, encompasses all the materials and physical means an
instructor might use to implement instruction and facilitate students' achievement of
instructional objectives. This may include computer labs, classroom technology,
Blackboard, and audio and video conferencing(https://unmgrc.unm.edu/resource -
hub/documents/what-is- instructional-media.pdf).
Instructional System
 An instructional system can be defined as “deliberately designed
instructional materials that are intended to function interrelatedly to achieve
predetermined learning outcomes” (Harris and Harrison, 1988, as quoted by
https://kristinsartbox.weebly.com) .
Instructional Technology
 The knowledge and application of instructional theories, strategies,
techniques, and tools to design, develop, and deliver instruction.
Technology Tools
 An instrument used for doing work. It can be anything that help you
accomplish your goal with the use of technology. These technology tools can be classified
as data, design, discussion, email and hand held devices (Bilbao, Purita P., et.al, (2019).

Here are some terms and concepts that you need to know and understand.
1. Technology refers to a mix of process and product used in the application of knowledge. It includes tools
form pencil and paper to the latest electronic gadgets and tools for practical tasks.
2. Information and Communication Technology Literacy or ICT Literacy is the use of digital technology,

software product that specializes in providing video chat and voice calls between computers, tables,
mobile devices via Internet and to regular telephones.
7. Off-line digital tools and apps can still be used even if there is no internet access. Among these are
Canary Learning, Pocket, Evertone, ibooks, KA LITE (Gupta, Prinyaka, 2017) downloaded in edtech
review (July 03, 2017).
