Master Class: How to use ECO Teens to promote face-to-face and autonomous English
language learning

Overview: In this MasterClass, the audience had the possibility to explore all the
educational resources from ECO Teens 2.0. They were able to listen
to segments of the radio program, use sections of the Teacher´s and
Student´s Guides and they were invited to Go Beyond the classroom
with projects and real-world tasks. Additionally, teachers experienced
how to plan the before, while and after of a class using different ECO
Teens 2.0 resources. Concepts such as flipped learning,
translanguaging, projects and tasks were referred to but, most
importantly, shown in a practical way.

Technique 1: Prepare for the class!

Here are some things that students can do to prepare for the
class:

- Complete a while-listening exercise.
- Do the READY and STEADY sections of the Student´s Learning
Guide

Here are some things teachers can do to prepare for the class:

- Flip the class and have students listen to the radio episode
before class, plan an exercise to activate knowledge and another
one to do while listening to the podcast.

advantage of the materials.

Action Step 1: Share ECO Teens resources and make students accountable

- Explore ECO Teens 2.0 resources and share them with students
- Use the checklist attached to this document and make students
accountable

Technique 2: Communicate and collaborate using functional language

Use learning stations to further improve your students´ skills in


the classroom. Here are some ideas:

- Station with functional language exercises


- Station fostering collaboration
- Station promoting communication

Action Step 2: Adapt your lesson plans with episode segments

- Check out how each episode of the radio program is structured


and pick the segment that best suits your students´ needs and
interests.
- Adapt your lesson plan with an episode segment

Technique 3: Go beyond the classroom and guide students to use the


language

This can be done through tasks and projects

- Check out the After Listening section in the Teacher´s Guide


- Extra Activities in the Teacher´s Guide
- Check out the GO section in the Student´s Guide
