Debate Script 3
Debate Script 3
Debate is defined as a public meeting in which a question is talked about by two persons or
groups, each expressing a different opinion, in favour or against the topic. In schools, debate
contests are held to sharpen public speaking skills, to present arguments to support the
opposing sides of a question and to hone the ability to speak convincingly. Debate contests also
provide intellectual entertainment for the audience.
The topic for today’s Debate is: “Technology will make people Smarter”.
Before we commence the contest, I would like to introduce the participants to you all.
The cadets who have taken up a stand to oppose the Motion are:
1. 4348 Rohan
2. 4374 Kanishk
3. 4385 Kishan
To do the difficult task of evaluating objectively the performance of the contestants, we have
got a panel of three judges – Mr Micheal Sir, Mrs Seema Ma’am and Mrs Pooja Ma’am, whose
training and interest make them perfectly suited to be the judges of such a competition. The
results will be compiled by Mr R Sunil sir.
1. Each of the performance will be evaluated on the basis of the following criteria:
iii. Argument / Rebuttal: which includes: compelling, convincing, logical, relevant, sophisticated
and deeply organised facts.
iv. Delivery: which include: Appearance, Poise, Self-confidence, Style, Voice modulation,
Facial expression, Eye-contact, Enthusiasm and Effectiveness.
v. Overall Performance
2. Each speaker will be given 04 minutes to speak in favour or against the topic. A warning bell
will be sounded after 03 minutes and the participants are requested to sum up within the next
01 minute.
3.Please note, in case of a dispute, the case must be brought before the Head of the Institution
through the In-charge Event within two hours of the event and only after the verdict is given.
We can all agree on the fact that technology makes our lives easier. Some might say that it
makes humans lazier.
For example, we do not have to plan a route before we go to an unfamiliar location. We do not
even need the skill of reading maps. Why bother, when your smartphone will tell you where to
go.
The much debatable topic is- whether the technology is beneficial to our brains? Does it make
people smarter?
Well without further delay, lets set the stage ready for the battle of wits of our contestants who
are ready to go.
So I begin the competition by inviting our first contestant
I would request the judges that the first speaker will be called to give his rebuttal at the end,
hence, the marks for rebuttal may be awarded to the first speaker towards the end only.
“Nowadays we use technology for almost everything we do. We use it to get from point A to B,
to calculate the most basic equations, to select our drink from a smart coffee machine, to keep
count of the steps we take through the day and so on.”
2. Now, let’s see what his opponent cdt. 4348 Rohan has to say against him.
“Reading books require concentration and imagination and stimulate memory. You are training
your brain to retain the information you are receiving. Working with current technologic tools
improves reaction time, intentional ability and the skill to find out what is important in an over -
load of information. But memorising, critical thinking and contemplation are skills we seem to
lose.”
3. Next contestant who is going to speak in favour of the topic is cdt 4283 Yash Bhati
“Whether technology makes us smarter or just plain stupid is an on-going debate. It is a fact
that current technology changes us – the way we function, perform tasks and think. It also
changes the way we obtain and retain knowledge.”
4. Now to oppose him cdt 4374 Kanishk is coming with his points against the topic.
‘The smartphone in your hand enables you to record a video, edit it and send it around the
world. With your phone, you can navigate in cities, buy a car, track your vital signs and
accomplish thousands of other tasks.’
5. Now I call upon cdt 4275 Ayan kapoor to try to convince this house of his argument for the
topic.
“Over time, as technology advances to automate how we work, what we do in our spare time
and how we do day-to-day activities, many believe it has led people to use their minds less
and their cell phones more. However, new research shows the benefits of technological
advancement that go beyond the obvious notion that “technology makes our lives easier.”
6. Last, but not the least, here comes cdt 4385 Kishan to refute his opponent, speaking
against the topic.
Now i would like to call upon cadet Ripu Daman for his rebuttal
Well that argument on the topic brings us to the end of the competition.
The only thing that remains is the results which are being compiled. While it is being compiled,
we have enough time to listen to some of our non- participants who are also willing to put forth
their views.
3 cdt 4316 Nikhil Sharma who is going to speak in favour of the motion.
4 cdt 4326 Vaibhav Jadoun who is going to speak against the motion.
May I now request Mrs. Seema Saini Mam, I/c Event to announce the
results.
Now I would like to invite/request our worthy Chief Guest, Adm Offr to come on the stage and
say a few words of encouragement to the participants.
Sir, pleaseThank you sir!
Vote of Thanks!
Before the curtains come down on this evening's event, it is my duty to express my sincere
gratitude to the Adm Offr who has permitted us to hold this event and also for his valuable
words of advice.
I am thankful to the judges and the complier for their help in judging and compiling the results.
Last but not the least, I am thankful to all the staff members for their help and encouragement.

Now I would request the gathering to Rise for the National Anthem.
