SITUATION: Last January 12, 2020, Taal Volcano awoke from 43 years being inactive and
began to spew gases, ash and lava into the air causing irreversible damages in
living organisms such as plants and animals.

SITUATION: Our country is one of the world’s top producers of geothermal power, owing to its
location along the Ring of Fire zone of Pacific volcanoes. Today Philippines has seven geothermal
fields which supply about 12% of the nation’s energy. Compared to electricity production using
natural gas, coal and hydropower the production of electricity from geothermal energy is much
cheaper.
