CORE COMPETENCIES

This section gives the details of the contents of the core units of competency required in TRAINERS
METHODOLOGY ( TM ) LEVEL I.

UNIT OF COMPETENCY : PLAN TRAINING SESSION

UNIT CODE : TVT232301

This unit covers the knowledge, skills and attitude in planning a training session. It includes identifying
learners’ requirements, preparing session plans, preparing instructional materials and organizing
learning and teaching assessment resources.

1. Identify learner’s training requirements


 Curriculum requirement is reviewed and analyzed.
 Current competencies of target group are determined.
 Competencies required to be attained are compared with current competencies of target
group.
 Results of comparison are used to determine training requirements.
 Training requirements are validated with appropriate people.
2. Prepare session plans
 Instructional blueprint and learning-engagement plan are prepared.
 Training delivery modes are identified.
 Training methods that pertains to the required competencies are addressed.
 Sequence of training activities is determined.
 Resources to support learning are identified.
 Session plan is finalized according to required format.
3. Prepare instructional materials
 Instructional materials that are focused on a key concept or idea related to the work activity
under consideration are prepared.
 The text and illustrations that are clear, legible and appropriate to the trainees are
prepared.
 Language, style and format of the materials are appropriate to the trainees’ characteristics
and needs.
4. Prepare assessment instruments (instructional)
 Relevant modules of instruction are identified, read and interpreted to identify the required
evidence.
 Evidence requirements are determined which show full coverage of the training module to
be assessed and a consistent performance of the relevant learning activities.
 Suitable assessment methods are identified and selected which are appropriate with the
learning outcome of a module of instruction.
 Assessment instrument are prepared in accordance with the content and learning outcome
specified under the assessment criteria of a module of instruction.
 Assessment instrument are checked for validity, fairness, safety and cost effectiveness.
5. Organize learning and teaching resources
 Resources required for training are checked for availability.
 Appropriate training locations are identified and arranged according to the training needs.
 Resource requirements are documented and access is arranged in accordance with the
organization, procedures and appropriate staff.

UNIT OF COMPETENCY : FACILITATE LEARNING SESSION

UNIT CODE : TVT232302

This unit covers the knowledge, skills and attitude in delivering Competency-Based Training Session. It
covers the following : preparing training session, conducting pre assessment, facilitating training session,
conducting competency assessment and reviewing delivery of training session.

1. Prepare Training Facilities/Resources


 Appropriate training facilities/resources are prepared based on the session requirement.
 Learning stations are prepared and set-up according to learning activities.
 Tools and equipment are prepared and set-up according to learning activities.
2. Conduct pre-assessment
 Pre-assessment instruments are prepared in accordance with the number of applicants.
 Context and procedures of pre-training assessment are well explained according to
guidelines.
 Evidence is gathered using the assessment tools specified in the evidence plan.
 Evidences are evaluated and feedbacks are discussed based on the results of the pre-
training assessment.
 Current competencies and prior learning are determined and credited.
 Characteristics and profile of learners are evaluated.
3. Facilitate Learning Session
 Learners are properly oriented on the CBT delivery system.
 Appropriate training methods are used based on the level and characteristics of the
learners.
 Learners are assisted to achieve session outcomes.
 Work and learning activities are monitored based on training plan.
 Feedback is provided to improve learner’s competence.
4. Conduct Competency Assessment
 Learners are oriented on the evidence requirements relevant to the evidence plan.
 Competency assessment tools, materials and equipment are provided to learners.
 Evidences are gathered and documented using relevant assessment tools.
 Assessment results are recorded in accordance with the approved rating system.
 Appropriate feedback mechanism is used to inform learner of his/her progress.
5. Prepare Training Facilities
 Training locations are identified and arranged according to the training needs.
 Training activities are coordinated with relevant personnel.
 Training facilities are set-up according to the training needs.
 Safety and housekeeping practices are observed following Occupational Safety and Health
Standards (OSHS) and relevant environmental laws.

UNIT OF COMPETENCY :CONDUCT TRAINING

UNIT CODE : TVT232316

This unit covers the knowledge, skills and attitude required to prepare for implementation of training,
implement learning sessions, monitor and support trainee’s learning process and evaluate learning
session.

1. Prepare for Implementation of Training


 Training delivery is customized based on work and training environment factors.
 Trainees’ profile is analyzed in reference to the trainee entry level requirements.
 Availability of resources for conduct of training batch confirmed according to training
requirements.
 Training plan is adjusted in accordance with the trainees’ profile
2. Implement Learning Sessions
 Learners are oriented on the flow of the Competency-Based Training (CBT)delivery system.
 Training is facilitated following the training plan.
 Learners are guided to perform tasks according to work requirements.
3. Monitor and Support Trainees’ Learning Process
 Learner’s performance are monitored based on work requirement.
 Learner’s difficulties are addressed based on work requirement.
 Feedback is provided to improve learners performance based on work requirement.
4. Evaluate Learning Session
 Orientation on training evaluation procedure is done according to company standards.
 Evaluation data are gathered according to company standards
 Data gathered from evaluation are analyzed against training plan.
 Relevant parts of the Competency-based Training (CBT)delivery system are adjusted based
on session evaluation.

UNIT OF COMPETENCY : CONDUCT END OF TRAINING ASSESSMENT

UNIT CODE : 232317

This unit covers the knowledge, skills and attitudes in conducting assessment. It details the requirements
for reviewing evidence requirements and assessment methods, organizing assessment activities,
facilitating end of training and evaluating assessment activities.

1. Review Evidence Requirements


 Required evidences are revisited from company standards with reference to the outcome of
job analysis.
 Sufficiency of evidences are checked with reference to evidence plan.
 Required evidences are compiled according to company standards.
2. Review Assessment Methods and Tools
 Assessment methods are checked for appropriateness according to evidence requirements.
 Evidence plan is checked for sufficiency based on evidence requirements.
 Reasonable adjustments in the assessment methods are proposed according to trainee’s
profile.
 Assessment tools are reviewed for validity and technical correctness.
 Assessment criteria are reviewed based on identified performance criteria.
3. Organize assessment activities
 Assessment activities are coordinated in accordance with the assessment plan.
 Resources required for assessment are organized according to assessment plan.
 Relevant personnel are informed of the assessment activity in line with industry policy and
procedures.
4. Facilitate end of training assessment
 Trainees are oriented on the conduct of assessment based on assessment plan
 Needs of the trainee are determined to establish any allowable adjustments in the
assessment procedure.
 Evidences are collected and documented on accordance with the assessment procedures
specified in the relevant Assessment plan
 Evidences are evaluated following the designed rubrics and the requirements of the industry
standards
 Assessment decision is made based on evaluation of the gathered evidences.
 Assessment result is recorded and secured in accordance with approved record keeping
guidelines of the organization.
 Feedback is given to the trainee in line with the relevant Assessment plan.
5. Evaluate Assessment Activities
 Assessment activities are reviewed according to industry standards.
 Consistency of assessment decision is reviewed with reference to performance standards
 Discrepancies and inconsistencies are recorded based on industry standards.
 Reviewed activities and approach are documented based on industry standards
 Recommendation for improvement is prepared based on the result of evaluation

SUPERVISE WORK BASED LEARNING

This module covers the knowledge, skills and attitudes required in order to supervise work based
learning process. This approach ensures learning through work activities, strategies and to support
workplace learning and work based monitoring.

Learning Outcomes:

Upon completion of this module, you should be able to:

1. Establish training requirements for trainees


2. Monitor work-based training
3. Review and evaluate work-based training effectiveness
Assessment criteria:

1. Relevant policies and guidelines are accessed and interpreted to guide


the development of work-based arrangements;
2. Goals for learning of trainees are identified and discussed with
relevant personnel;
3. Training plan is prepared in accordance with agreed outcomes;
4. Training schedule is developed , discussed and agreed with relevant
personnel;
5. Orientation and Support Mechanism are identified and arranged
according to the needs of the trainees;
6. Availability of materials is confirmed with relevant personnel within
the budget requirement;
7. The objectives for undertaking work-based training and the processes
involved are explained to the trainees.
8. Visits to work-based training venue are conducted in accordance with
trainers qualification requirements and to ensure that training
arrangement are met;
9. Trainees progress is monitored and recorded against training plan and
contingencies are address;
10. Work performance are observed and alternative approaches are
suggested;
11. OHS requirements are monitored to ensure health, safety and
welfare of trainees;
12. Feedback is provided to trainees concerning their work-based
learning performance.
13. Work performance and learning achievement are analyzed in
accordance with work-based learning requirements;
14. Trainees are encouraged to provide feedback on their learning
experience for documentation purposes
15. The effectiveness of work-based learning is evaluated against the
objectives;
16. Improvements and changes to work based learning are
recommended based on review process.
How to Use This Competency-Based Learning Material
Welcome!
The unit of competency, "Conduct Competency Assessment", is one of
the competencies of TRAINERS METHODOLOGY LEVEL I (TM1), a course
which comprises the knowledge, skills and attitudes required for a TVET
trainer to possess.
The module, Conducting Competency Assessment, contains training
materials and activities related to identifying learner’s requirements,
preparing session plan, preparing basic instructional materials and
organizing learning and teaching activities for you to complete.
In this module, you are required to go through a series of learning
activities in order to complete each learning outcome. In each learning
outcome are Information Sheets, Self-Checks, Task Sheets and Job
Sheets. Follow and perform the activities on your own. If you have
questions, do not hesitate to ask for assistance from your facilitator.

MODULE : Conducting Competency Assessment

INTRODUCTION:
This module covers the knowledge, skills and attitudes in conducting
assessment. It details the requirements for organizing assessment activities,
preparing the candidate, gathering and evaluating evidence, recording
assessment outcomes and providing feedback.
LEARNING OUTCOMES
Upon completion of this module you must be able to;
• Organize assessment activities
• Prepare the candidate
• Gather evidence
• Make the assessment decision
• Record assessment results
• Provide feedback to candidates

ASSESSMENT CRITERIA:
1. Assessment activities in the workplace, training center or
assessment center are identified
PROGRAM/COURSE : TRAINING METHODOLOGY Level 1 UNIT OF COMPETENCY : Utilize
Electronic Media in Facilitating Training MODULE : Utilizing Electronic Media in Facilitating
Training Introduction: This module covers the skills and knowledge and attitude required in
advance training environment using electronic media in facilitating training, including
operation and maintenance of the equipment. Learning Outcomes Upon completion of this
module you must be able to: 1. Present a lesson through direct video footage/capture 2.
Present lesson via film viewing method 3. Utilize computer and multimedia technology to
present a lesson

Assessment Criteria: 1. Equipments are inspected for safe working condition operation in-
line with manufacturer‘s user guide. 2. Set-up of equipment is performed in accordance with
connection guide, safety practices and presentation requirements. 3. Equipment is operated
based on presentation requirements and operation manual. 4. Presentation oflesson is
executed through direct video footage/capture and in-line with session plan. 5. Equipment is
stored in accordance with standard operating procedure. 6. Equipments are inspected for
safe working condition and normal operation in-line with manufacturer‘s user guide. 7. Set-
up of equipment is performed in accordance with connection guide, safety practices and
presentation requirements. 8. Equipment is operated based on presentation requirements
and operation manual.

Learners are oriented prior to film viewing in-line with the expected outcome of the lesson.
10. Strategies to ensure that the learner will learn important information from the movie
are implemented in-line with session plan. 11. Equipment is stored in accordance with
standard operating procedure. 12. Equipments are inspected for safe working condition and
