Split Bolt Connectors
SBC - Split Bolt Connectors
CABAC has a complete range of split bolts that are used for tapping or joining aerial hard drawn
copper conductors or insulated copper conductors. The split bolts are made from a hard grade
high conductivity brass with a captive saddle which applies a distributed pressure to conductors,
to comply with ESAA specifications.
The split bolts have the same head dimensions as the norm in the market so that a standard
linesman’s spanner will fit. They can be supplied in natural brass or electro tinned.

Full Tension Copper Sleeves
Copper Compression Sleeves
Copper Compression Sleeves are designed to accommodate stranded hard
drawn copper overhead conductors and comply with the full tension testing
requirements of AS 1154.1. These sleeves are easily and quickly crimped
onto the conductor using hexagonal dies and the HT51 hydraulic crimper, or
any larger hydraulic crimper. The finished joint is shorter and less bulky than
the McIntyre sleeve. It replaces twisting of the conductor required for the
installation of McIntyre sleeves.
CABAC’s Copper Compression Sleeves are made from 99.9% high
conductivity copper. Plastic plugs are fitted into the ends of the sleeve to
prevent foreign material entering the sleeve prior to crimping the conductor.
Compression lines are marked on each end of the sleeve to indicate the
position and the number of compressions required. An indent in the centre
of the sleeve acts as an internal stop to ensure conductors are inserted to L

Insulation Piercing Connectors
for ABC
Insulation Piercing Connectors
CABAC’s IPC (Insulation Piercing Connectors) are used to tap off low voltage XLPE
insulated Aerial Bundled Cable (ABC), using a unique insulation piercing technique.
• Designed for all weather applications, corrosion resistant, ease of installation
and low cost
• Connections can be made fully live in minutes, without time consuming crimping,
applying insulation or sealing compound
• Body is moulded from tough, resilient, glass filled nylon for long service life
exposed to weather (particularly sunlight) and is rounded to prevent damage
to adjacent conductors
• Hardware is stainless steel, which does not corrode, allowing the IPC to be
undone at any time in the future. The bolt has a stainless steel pressure washer
which maintains clamping pressure
• Shear head is made from glass filled nylon, for controlled shear torque. Head
of bolt is a double hexagonal arrangement which allows the IPC to be undone
Insulation Piercing Connectors
after shearing
• Extra hard aluminium contact teeth cut through insulation without splitting and IPC95/10
ensure proper penetration into the conductor and Electrical continuity without
sacrificing the mechanical strength of the conductor
• Aluminium teeth ensure compatibility with aluminium conductor and will not
deteriorate due to stress corrosion
• Rubber seals and grease prevent moisture entering the cable for
long term performance
• End caps provided are used to seal the end of the branch core
• Suitable for Aluminium and Copper
The IPC connectors are simply tightened onto the insulated conductor using
a 13 mm spanner and have a hex nut that shears once the correct torque is attained.
This installation can be done fully live since the IPC connector is insulated and the
insulation is not removed from the conductor.

Insulation Piercing Connectors
Bare Wire to Insulation Piercing Connectors
Insulation Piercing Connectors
CABAC’s IPCB range are used to connect bare copper or aluminium conductors to
Aerial Bundled Cable (ABC) style insulated conductors, with conventional IPC style
piercing of the insulated conductor. Primary uses are:
• To connect a main ABC run to an existing open main overhead system. This is
IPCB150/150
primarily when an ABC run is strung in place of an existing overhead run that
is being replaced or has been damaged, or when an ABC run is being connected
to a existing bare overhead main
• To connect a house, commercial or industrial service to a bare wire overhead open
main. These connectors are based around the traditional IPC connectors used in
ABC to ABC type connections. They are simply tightened onto the conductors using
a shear head for torque control
Features of the CABAC connectors are:
• The contact bridges are made of tinned brass copper, which are designed for use
with Copper or Aluminium conductors, which reduces the stock range.

Bolts for Pillar Box Assembly
CABAC has two bolt styles for the pillar boxes: allen head bolt and ‘D’ bolt style to deter
unauthorised entry. The bolts are made from stainless steel with options of washers and o-rings.
Allen head bolts require a conventional 6mm allen key driver.
The ‘D’ bolts require a special tube spanner which has a long handle to clear the top of the pillar PBLB
box, so that the bolts can be tightened or loosened without the risk of the spanner fouling the
pillar box. CABAC has introduced a handy cordless drill socket drive for ‘D’ bolts. This speeds up
cover removal and replacement. Part number D-SOCKET.
An innovative locking bolt (PBLB) is made to order to prevent unauthorised entry using
a padlock.

• The unique palm incorporates an inbuilt terminal block offering a series of range taking tunnels
6 (in the case of looped pillars) with a maximum capacity of 50mm2
• To create the loop, connectors are bolted back to back, using two or three way bus bars which
allow branch off connections to be made with ease
• The connector system is a true bi-metal system with the lug manufactured from high grade
Electrical aluminium which is then copper plated and tin plated finally to produce a connector
for use with both copper and aluminium cables
• The installation is simplicity in itself requiring only a small number of hand tools, Allen keys
for shear bolts and cable connection, Spanners to connect the bus bar and a screwdriver to
complete the cover
• The system has been extensively tested and meets fully the requirements of AS4325 for
both stranded and solid conductors
• The covers meet finger safe concepts and the requirements for a 1000 volt proof cover
The cover is manufactured from glass filled nylon providing an extremely tough and durable
cover system

‘C’ Connectors
This range is used for joining and tapping conductors. The smaller ‘C‘ Connectors
are used to connect 16, 25 and 35mm2 conductors, usually in distribution earth
situations, and the larger connectors are primarily used to connect earth grids,
the resultant joints being corrosion resistant and suitable for direct burial.

Stay Guard
Stay Guard is used on stay wires at ground level to provide abrasion protection from livestock, and to make stays
visible to people. It is UV stabilised and available with or without a longitudinal split.
Possum Guard
A unique product developed by CABAC and now used by many authorities. It simply works by creating an
unstable swivelling jacket around the overhead cable, and the possum falls off the cable if he walks along it.
Simply attach a number of plastic swivels around the conductor, located in place with a cable tie, and your
possum problems disappear.

Cable Stockings (Grips)
CABAC’s Cable Stockings are designed to pull cables through ducts
and along trenches and act as permanent cable tensioners in industrial,
mining and processing plant applications. All the grips work on the
same principle, in that they “shrink” when fitted over the end of the
cable, because of their peculiar helical design. When pulled via a hauling
rope they grip, and the more they are pulled, the greater the grip. A
properly selected and fitted cable grip, used under the correct operating
procedure , should never slip.
• Standard grips are constructed from two ply galvanised mild steel wire
ropes. Stainless steel is available as a special.
• Standard grips have an alloy ferrule. Copper and stainless steel ferrules
are available as specials.
• Standard grips have a soft eye. Galvanised or stainless steel thimbles
are available as specials.
• Nylon style grips are suitable for Aerial Bundled Conductors (ABC).
The strengths shown in the tables are theoretical and are based on the
metallic area and grade of wire. Since field conditions have so many
variables, it is difficult to list a guaranteed strength. The main factors
that will reduce the strength of Cable Stockings are uneven loading of
the strands caused by irregularities in the cable end, and abrasion of the
wires. Fitting of an incorrect size grip will lead to premature failure.
J37
Cable Stockings (Grips)
Tubular Single Eye
CABAC’s “CG” range of stockings are the most common type of stockings, used for general cable hauling.
They have a single eye and are integrally woven on a central axis. They are slipped over the end of the cable,
and grip when pulled.
They are made of two ply, galvanised steel wire strand with an alloy ferrule and soft eye. Variations such as
galvanised thimbles, copper ferrules, stainless steel strand and stainless steel thimbles are also available.
Please contact our sales.
J38
Cable Stockings (Grips)
Tubular Double Eye
CABAC’s double eye style allows the cable to pass through the grip. The extra eye allows the cable to be lifted
into position with one eye, whilst the other eye is used to anchor the cable to a fixture.
The standard double eye style is manufactured from two ply galvanised steel wire strand, with an alloy ferrule
and soft eyes. Variations such as galvanised thimbles, copper ferrules, stainless steel strand and stainless
steel thimbles are also available. Please contact our sales.

Cable Blowers
Tornado Cable Blower
The Tornado cable blowing machine is capable of installing fibre optic
cable (6-32mmO/D) at speeds up to 90m per minute into pre installed
sub-duct (25-63mm). The system operates on the viscous drag
principle employing compressed air to install the cable, controlled and
NEW
assisted by a hydraulic belt drive system. An electronic monitoring
system provides read out of speed and distance. The Tornado is
equipped with an electronic pressure sensor which will shut down the
hydraulic drive system in case an obstruction is found in the duct.

box is comprised of a heavy duty aluminium base and lid that form a
pressurized chamber into which one end of the occupied sub-duct can
be attached. The existing cable can then exit the box from either side
of the two branches to best suit the application. The vacant branch of
the junction box is then connected to the tornado using a short length
of sub-duct for the installation of the new cable.

Winches
Pull And Assist Capstan Winch
NEW
Skid mounted hydraulic pull and assist double capstan winch with capstan tilt function and rope take-up drum.
The winch is powered by a 13HP petrol engine, driving triple mounted, fixed displacement pumps. One pump powers the double capstan via a
hydraulic motor and epicyclical gearbox, another pump drives the rope take-up drum while the remaining pump powers the tilt function of the
double capstan.
Panel mounted controls are user friendly. The operation of the double capstan features two ‘dead man switch’ style, spring centred lever valves
which control both direction and tilt function. The rope take-up drum function is operated via a simple ‘on-off’ style lever valve.
Rope/cable tension can be controlled via a panel mounted, adjustable valve and a dial read out indicator showing tension in kg’s and pressure in
PSI/BAR.
The winch will stop pulling at the selected tension without stopping the engine, thereby protecting the cable.
A ‘fixed’ valve can be used in lieu of the adjustable valve that sets the pressure of the hydraulic system to give a max tension of 2.2kN’s.
The double capstan can be tilted through 90° from horizontal to vertical to suit the work being undertaken and the rope take-up drum can be used
with the double capstan in any position.
The rope take-up drum is removable and can be split to enable the easy removal of the rope.
The base dimension of 1165mm x 1880mm makes it suitable for mounting on a trailer or ute tray.

Street Light Insulated Terminal Block
Street Light Power Block
The TB503B has been designed to replace the existing switchboard that supplies the power to the street
light fitting. An Australian electrical supply company approached CABAC to modify the existing setup to
make the switchboard user friendly and provide over finger protection.
The new block offers the following features:
• Finger protection was achieved by shrouding on the wiring end of the terminal
• The loop in and loop out cables could be up to 50mm2, carry 200Amps.
• Compact design
• Blanks attached on blocks that do not need loops.

Regulated DC/DC Converter
Regulated DC/DC Power Supply
Application
DC/DC Power Supply for Locomotive applications. The MR series DC/DC converters typically operate above 95% efficiency at full load over the
specified input range. The MR converters have been designed to operate with the 72VDC supply voltage commonly found in most locomotives.
The MR series uses electronic current sensing instead of a fuse for increased efficiency and reliability. If the supply becomes overloaded it will
cycle the output on and off whilst the problem persists and afterwards resume normal operation. The supply is able to handle loads requiring
a high surge current to operate such as lamps and motors.
