Dear Jane Doe
Dear Jane Doe
My daughter, Abigail in 6th grade, was absent on Monday because her grandfather passed away.
Abigail was quite close with her grandfather and was very sad to hear the news.
My husband and I thought it would be a good idea to stay home with her. The funeral is expected to
be this Friday and so she will have to leave school at 1:00 pm after lunch.
If you could send her the missing assignment from Monday and any work that she will miss on
Friday, I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you very much.
Sincerely,
Mary Smith
Dear Jane Doe,
My son, Adam in your homeroom class was absent on Thursday and Friday because he caught a
severe cold. Thankfully, his fever has subsided and he has stopped coughing. I am sending him to
school today because he feels much better and I do not want him to fall behind in his studies. Please
give him all the assignments that he missed, so that he can work on them when he comes home
today.
Sincerely,
Mary Smith

respond gladly to any of your questions through email or phone as much as possible.

I am writing to request a leave of absence on behalf of my son, Joel King, who is studying in Mrs.
Wright’s Pre-Kindergarten class. Michael will require leave for a period of 21 days (from Friday,
February 20, 2015 to Friday, March 13, 2015). We fully intend to have him resume his studies on the
following Monday, March 16, 2015 and to complete the remainder of the school year from that date
onward.
Since my cancer diagnosis several months ago, I have had to look into other after-school care
options for Michael, as the treatment process prevents me from giving him the attention he needs at
this early stage in his academic career. Michael will be staying out of town with my husband’s
parents for the duration of his leave, but will visit us on the weekends in between my chemotherapy
appointments. This leave has been recommended by my oncologist and by our family’s social
worker. I have enclosed both of their contact information for your convenience.
Our family greatly appreciates your understanding and assistance during this difficult time. Please
feel free to contact me with any further questions or for additional information.
Sincerely,
