The Visible Parts of Chicken and Swine
I. Introduction:
The chicken is an interesting creature from the structural view point. It possess feathers, breast bone,
spurs and lack of teeth. It has a comb which separates it from other species of birds. A knowledge of
visible parts will contribute to a proper understanding of the chicken, its peculiarities, identification and
classification. In swine, the importance of knowing the external parts by students in swine husbandry
cannot be over emphasized. The parts of the animal should be well known to students especially during
selection and judging because external parts which determine the real make-up of the animal have direct
relation to the internal quality. Furthermore, modifications on the various external parts have bearing on
the classification or grouping of animal into different types, breed varieties or strain. When marketing of
animals especially in the Philippines. It is usually the external parts or appearance is the basis of the
purchase or sale as the case may be.
II. Objectives:
1. To acquaint the student with the various external parts of chicken and swine.
2. To be able to appreciate the importance of knowing the visible parts of the chicken and swine.
3. To identify the types and breeds of swine as well as in chicken including varieties and strain.
III. Procedure:
1. Take a selfie (proof) and picture with an actual male and female chicken as well as swine and label all
its parts.
2. List down the difference between male and female chickens and swine.
Answer: The males have pointed feathers around the neck, back, and tail; in females these feathers have
round ends. If the chickens are purebreds, the coloring patterns of the males and females will also differ.
