A. GENERAL INTRODUCTION

1. INTRODUCTION
This manual explains the operation and maintenance required when
this equipment is used, Prior to use, read this manual carefully,
understand the contents throughly, and then retain it where it can
readily be perused.

2. FOR SAFETY OPERATION

Mis-operation of this equipment may lead to a dangerous stats, for
example, a load may drop. When handling, always bear in mind all
items described and proceed operations.

3. WARNING ITEMS
The following are the warning items in using this equipment.
[WARNING] refers to the operation or maintenance contents that
may bring about an accident resulting in injury or death unless
these items are observed strictly.

 WARNING
• A person without through knowledge of this equipment should
not operate.
• When damage or an abnormality is found in the wire and other
loose gear, avoid all operations.
• When a person is present within the lifting load range, do not
operate the equipment.
• During running, do not touch or approach the equipment.

• Excessive hoisting or lowering is not allowed. (The wire rope

should be left unwound around the drum at least 3 turns.)
• With air drive, ensure that the hose and joint section are
tightened securely before starting operation.
• When performing operations with the manual handle, turn the
handle while holding it tight. After use, remember to remove it.
• Before starting inspection and maintenance, cut off the power
supply or air source.

- 3 -
4. PRECAUTIONS
The precaution in using this equipment are described below.
The equipment might get damaged unless the [CAUTION] points
are strictly observed.

 CAUTION
• With air drive, check the oil level in the oiler before operation.

• Ensure that a proper amount of lubricating oil is applied to the

winch speed reducer. Also, lubricate the rotary unit.
• When performing a davit slewing operation, be sure to detach
the fixing pin.

 CAUTION IN OPERATING
• To be operated by authorized personnel only.

• Secure safety before operate.

• pay attention to the rotating direction.

• move the control lever slowly.

• the control lever should be returned to the neutral position

when the equipment is not in use.

B. INSTRUCTION MANUAL FOR DAVIT

1. OUTLINE

This davit is made up of pedestal, jib, upper post, hoisting winch

and slewing apparatus.
This davit uses an winch for loading and unloading of goods and
employs compressed air as power source. It is driven by a portable
air motor. It can be turned easily by human power.
This davit can be operated with ease and yet meets carious
requirements for deck machines. It is so designed that daily
inspection and maintenance can be carried out easily.

2. HINTS ON OPERATION

Piping has been made as shown in the following diagram.

Hoisting winch is worked by manipulating an operating lever of air
motor.
Slewing is operated by using an slewing bar or guy rope.

- 5 -
3. CAUTION OF OPERATION

(1) The butterfly nuts for fixing the air motor are not loose.
(2) Make sure if the drum stopper is released.
(3) A fixing pin is removed when the machine is turned.

4. MAINTENANCE AND INSPECTION

(1) Davit
Supply oil to turning part from time to time.
In supplying oil, put in grease (corresponding to universal grease)
through an oiling nipple. Parts to be oiled.

(2) Winch
Since a reduction gear of this machine is oil-bath type, please see
the following equipment.
① If gear oil has been supplied in designed quantity.
② If oil is degraded.
③ If there is ant oil leak.
④ If bolt & nut at part are loose.

(3) Air motor

Presence of dust, sand, etc. in the air motor and negligence of
oiling can cause trouble of this machine.
Since this machine is manufactured as an implement for ships, it
is so designed that entering of dust and sand from any part other
than an air supply hole can be prevented. However, if any sludge
remains inside the piping, similar trouble may result.
Because bakelite is used for rotary part of this machine, it is
inevitable that bakelite wears by degrees even if the machine is
worked in a fully oiled condition. Wear of bakelite will result in
lowering the performance of the motor. Bakelite should be replaced
when worn to maximum limit (25% of regular dimension).

- 6 -
(4) Oiler , Filter
① Oiler should always be filled with oil, at about 80%.
(corresponding to ISO VG 32 turbine oil.)
② In working the motor, please adjust an oil quantity adjusting
screw so that oil may drip at the rate of 1-2 drops every second.
③ If drain deposits in the filter, should be discharged by loosening
a drain valve.
④ In the case where the motor is not returned to its orignal
performance, ever if drain is discharged, it may be attributable to
the loss of air permeability due to clogging of a filter element,
cleanse it with light oil, dry it and then re-attach it.
⑤ When putting to use after the long period, supply oil
(corresponding to ISO VG 32 turbine oil) directly 2-3 cc from air
inlet of air motor before operation.

- 7 -
C. HANDLING EXPLANATION OF AIR MOTOR

(1) As dust and sand inside the AIR MOTOR and insufficient
lubrication cause engine troubles you are advised to remove them
before starting the engine.
① When not in operation, the lever should be in it's neutral
position and insert a plug into the hose attaching section of the
mouth piece.
② To connect a rubber hose to the AIR MOTOR, remove drain
inside the hose and admission line by passing air through them.

(2) We recommend to use lithium grease. To supply turbine oil ISO

VG 32 for the engine every 15 to 30 minutes. It will be better to
install a lubricator between compressed air source and the air
motor. Oil used in the lubricator will be the same as the above
mentioned one. Make it a rule to apply the lubrication oil at approx.
20 drops/min. Per one horse power by the lubricator.

(3) When the rotor vanes get worn-out more than normal abrasion,
the efficiency of the Motor decreases, so the replacement of the
vanes is recommended every 800 to 1200 operation hours.

(4) In disassembling and assembling be careful of the following

items.
① Pass air into the body and cylinder through the admission side,
and remove dust and other impurities inside them.
② To disassemble engine sections, remove the gear case and the
housing cover of the body. Knock with a hammer on the end of the
rotor, afore placing a piece of wood or soft metal on the end.
③ Each part should be cleaned with oil to remove stain and dust.
④ Put sufficient grease in gear case, gear and bearing sections.
⑤ Knock pin within the machine are reliably mounted.
⑥ Test operation after assembling should be kept for minimum in
time. (This kind of operation being on no load results in the
wearing out of the rotor vanes.)
