Warehousing is the procedure through which inventories are kept in a structure,


commodities are reorganized, and can be moved by other modes of transport.
SafeExpress provides warehouse services, which include storage and order
fulfillment. They also offer services like inventory management and billing/
invoicing services to the companies.

3PL is a company that provides party logistics services to its customers as a part
of its supply chain management. These businesses frequently focus on integrated
operations, storage, and transportation services that can be grown and modified
to meet client demands depending on market circumstances. SafeExpress has its
own warehouse facilities and more than 60% of the supply chain solutions are
provided by them, like transportation, storage, invoicing, etc.

Transhipment or cross-docking is an efficient distribution strategy that moves


products immediately from inbound to outbound without storing them first. In
SafeExpress, the area between the unloading dock and the loading dock is the
transhipment zone. Since SafeExpress is known for its speed and efficiency, here
the goods do not stay in the transhipment zone for more than 12 hours.

These three functions are interrelated with each other. A 3PL company may
provide warehousing on demand. For example, SafeExpress has warehousing and
transportation facilities, but on the other hand, companies like Arya Collateral
Warehousing Services Private Limited provide only warehousing services to other
companies. Hence, these functions are interrelated and can be used as an
individual component.

A vendor-managed inventory is a business model where a product’s buyer gives a


vendor information about goods, and the vendor fully assumes responsibility for
keeping an agreed-upon inventory of the item, often near to the buyer’s
consumption site. In this business model, the inventory management system is
built into logistics.

SafeExpress offers their customers vendor-managed inventory. The above


example explains how Maruti uses this particular service offered to them by Safe
Express. The suppliers of Maruti ship their products to the SafeExpress Delhi 11
hub from where the raw materials are stored at the facility and are provided to
Maruti Assembly as and when required using the just-in-time inventory system.
