answers to a variety of common interview questions. Below are some of the most frequently
asked questions with advice on how to respond.

Tell me about yourself.

● Employers ask this question to learn a little more about who you are and what qualifies
you for this job.
● Answer with the follow structure:
○ Present: Who are you, what are you doing currently, what are your strengths?
○ Past: What have you accomplished in the past that has prepared you for this
position?
○ Future: Where are you going next and how does this position fit in with that?
○ Thesis statement: Why are you a good fit for this position?

What are your strengths?

● Employers ask this question to allow you to expand on your top skills and strengths
related to this position.

grow.
● Avoid insincere or overly used responses like “I’m a perfectionist” or “I work too hard.”

Where do you see yourself in five years?

goals and how your aspirations align with the company’s future.
● Answer by demonstrating how this position aligns with your short and long term goals.

Tell me about a time when...

● Employers ask these questions, often referred to as behavioral questions, to understand
how your past experience would allow you to be successful in a future position.
● Answer by creating short stories using the STAR method:

results or show a tangible impact that resulted from your work.

also your opportunity to interview the hiring committee to see if the role, company, and
team aligns with your values and provides the career growth opportunities you seek.
● Prepare 4-6 questions for the end of the interview. These could include:
○ What are the strengths and areas of growth for this company?
