Lesson Plan Features of Adverts
Lesson Plan Features of Adverts
Learning Sequence
Persuasive Prompts: (Note: have the following questions cut up as prompts taken from the Persuasive Prompts
Activity Sheet for small group discussion.) What does persuade mean? What language do adverts use? Where do you
see adverts? How do adverts persuade you? Why are adverts made? What is your favourite advert? Why?
Ask the children to work in groups to record their responses to the questions on the prompt cards.
Take feedback, discuss and record on the Lesson Presentation.
Let Me Persuade You: Tell the children that they will be creating their own adverts. Use the Lesson Presentation
to introduce the Adverts Checklist Activity Sheet and then explain each point.
Can the children explain some of the main features used in adverts?
Spot the Features: Look at the advert for crisps on the Lesson Presentation. Can children identify key features
included from their Advert Checklist? (Annotate responses to show how to highlight key features ready for the
task.) Emphasise that adverts won’t generally contain all of the key features, just the ones needed in order to get the
message of their product across.
Children will then choose an advert from the Example Adverts and stick it into their book next to the checklist. You
may wish to have available copies of print adverts in magazines or newspapers for some children.
They will need to draw a line from the key feature on the checklist to where they can see it on the advert.
Can the children explain some of the main features used in adverts?
Can the children look at a selection of different adverts and find some of these features?
Which and Why? Ask the children to choose and explain which advert they found most appealing and why.
