About the Authors

Douglas M. Lambert is the Raymond E. Mason Professor of Transportation and Logistics

and Director of The Global Supply Chain Forum at the Fisher College of Business, The

Ohio State University. Prior to joining Ohio State he was The Prime F. Osborn Ill Eminent

Scholar Chair in Transportation, Professor of Marketing and Logistics, and Director of

The International Center for Competitive Excellence at the College of Business Adminis­

tration, University of North Florida. From 1 9 8 3 to 1985 he was PepsiCo Professor of Mar­

keting at Michigan State University. Dr. Lambert has served as a faculty member for over

400 executive development programs in North and South America, Europe, Asia, Aus­

tralia, and New Zealand. He is the author of The Development of an Inventory Costing

Methodology, The Distribution Channels Decision, The Product Abandonment Decision,

and co-author of Management in Marketing Channels, Strategic Logistics Management,

and Supply Chain Directions for a New North America. His publications include more

than 100 articles and conference proceedings. In 1986 Dr. Lambert received the Council of

Logistics Management's Distinguished Service Award, "the highest honor that can be be­

stowed on an individual for achievement in the physical distribution/logistics industry,"

for his contributions to logistic s management. He holds an honors B.A. and M.B.A. from

the University of Western Ontario and a Ph.D. from The Ohio State University. Dr. Lam­

bert is co-editor of The International Journal of Logistics Management.

James R. Stock is Professor of Marketing and Logistics at the College of Business

Administration, University of South Florida. Dr. Stock held previous faculty appoint­

ments at Michigan State University, the University of Oklahoma, and the University of

Notre Dame. From 1 9 8 6 to 1 9 8 8 he held the position of Distinguished Visiting Professor

of Logistics Management, School of Systems and Logistics, at the Air Force Institute of

Technology, Wright-Patterson Air Force Base. Dr. Stock is the author or co-author of

over 90 publications including books, monographs, articles, and proceedings papers. He

is author of Reverse Logistics; co-author of Distribution Consultants: A Managerial

Guide to Their Identification, Selection, and Use; and co-author of Strategic Logistics
