Dachshund Amigurumi

Skill Level: Intermediate


Materials:
Red Heart Acrylic yarn, one small skein ((15 gms), brown;; a few yards of black
Crochet hook size 3.5mm (6/0)
(6/0),, and 1.75mm (for optional crocheted snout)
Black crochet thread for sewing and embroidering
Sewing and Tapestry Needle, stitch markers
2 small black beads for eyes
Polyester fiberfill for stuffing (you can also use yarn scraps)
Small amount plastic pellets or plastic beads for stuffing (optional)
Gauge: 5 sts and 6 rows = 1 inch
Finished Size: approximately 3 inches tall
Note: Finished size will depend on gauge as well as how tightly it is stuffed.

All parts except ears and tail are worked in a spiral. Do not join rounds, mark the
beginning of each round and move marker up as you go.

Head
Starting at the top,
Rnd 1: Ch 2, 7 sc in 2nd ch from hook – 7 sc.
Rnd 2: 2 sc in each sc around – 14 sc.
Rnd 3: (2 sc in next sc, sc in next sc) repeat around – 21 sc.
Rnds 4-7: Sc in each sc around – 21 sc.
Rnd 8: (sc2tog, sc in next sc) repeat around – 14 sc.
Rnd 9: Sc in each sc around – 14 sc.
Rnd 10: Sc in next two sc, sc2tog (mark this st as the middle of front), sc in next
two sc, sl st in next sc, fasten off leaving enough yarn for sewing.

Muzzle
Rnd 1: Ch 2, 6 sc in 2nd ch from hook – 6 sc.
Rnd 2: (2 sc in next sc, sc in next) three times – 9 sc.
Rnd 3: (Sc in next 2 sc, 2 sc in next) three times – 12 sc.
Rnd 4: Sc in each sc around – 12 sc.
Rnd 5: Sc in next 2 sc, 3 sc in next sc (mark the middle of this 3sc as the center
top of muzzle, sc in next 2 sc, sl st in next sc, fasten off leaving enough yarn for
sewing.
Snout (optional, you can embroider snout with black yarn or thread)
With black thread and 1.5mm hook, (starting at the bottom)
Row 1: Ch 2, 2 sc in 2nd ch from hook, turn.
Row 2: Ch 1, 2 sc in each sc, turn.
Row 3: Ch 1, sc in 1st sc, sc together the next two sc, 2 sc in last sc, turn.
Row 4: Sl st in each st across. Fasten off, leaving enough thread for sewing.

Right Ear
Ch 8, dc in 4th ch from hook (beginning ch 3 counts as dc), dc on next ch, tr on next,
(tr, dc) on next ch, (4 dc, 2 tr, 3 dc) in last ch; on opposite side of foundation ch,
dc on next 4 sts, hdc on last st. Fasten off, leaving enough yarn for sewing.
Left Ear
Ch 8, dc in 4th ch from hook, dc on next 3 chs, ( dc, 2 tr, 4 dc) in last ch; on
opposite side of foundation ch, (dc, tr) on next ch, tr on next, dc on next two sts,
hdc on last st. Fasten off, leaving enough yarn for sewing.

Eyelids (make two)


Work tightly, ch 4, sl st in 2nd ch from hook, sl st on the next ch. Fasten off,
leaving enough yarn for sewing.

Body
Starting at the bottom,
Rnd 1: Ch 2, 7 sc in 2nd ch from hook – 7 sc.
Rnd 2: 2 sc in each sc around – 14 sc.
Rnd 3: (2 sc in next sc, sc in next sc) repeat around – 21 sc.
Rnds 4-9: Sc in each sc around – 21 sc.
Rnd 10: (sc2tog, sc in next sc) repeat around – 14 sc.
Rnd 11: Sc in next 6 sc, sc2tog, sc in next 6 sc, (mark the 3rd to the last sc as the
middle of front), sl st in next sc – 13 sc. Fasten off leaving enough yarn for sewing.

Paws (make 4)
With black yarn, ch 2
Rnd 1: 2 sc in 2nd ch from hook, change to brown yarn, 3 sc in same st – 5 sc.
Rnd 2: Change to black, 2 sc in next two sc, change to brown, 2 sc in next 3 sc – 10
sc. Fasten off black.
Rnd 3: Sc in each sc – 10 sc.
Rnd 4: Sc in next 2 sc, sc2tog, sc in 3 sc, sc2tog, sc in next sc, sl st in next sc – 8
sc. Fasten off leaving enough yarn for sewing.

Tail
Ch 8, sl st in 2nd ch from hook and on the next 2 chs, sc on the next 4 chs, ch 1,
turn, sc on 3 sc, sl st on next sc, fasten off leaving enough yarn for sewing. Fold in
the two sc rows and weave in the yarn through the sc stitches to close.

Assemble Head
Stuff head and muzzle with fibrefill. Sew muzzle to head. Sew (or embroider)
snout on muzzle, embroider the mouth as well. Position the eye beads with pins,
along rnd 4 or 5. Adjust as necessary, then sew securely in place. Position the
eyelid just above the eye bead with the loose ends at the inner part of the eye.
Sew in place, making desired expression for the eyes. Sew the ears along rnd 3, at
the middle top of head.

Finishing
Stuff body half-full with plastic pellets or beads (for weight), then stuff the
remaining part with fibrefill. Sew head to body. Stuff paws lightly with fibrefill.
Sew the last round flat, then sew paws in place: the feet between rnds 3 and 4, the
hands positioned above the outer side of the feet, one round below the neck. Sew
tail at the center of back, between rnds 3 and 4.
