Atmosphere Lesson Plan

The document contains a detailed lesson plan for a 7th grade science class on the layers of the atmosphere. The lesson plan outlines desired learning outcomes, subject matter, materials needed, and a step-by-step procedure. The procedure includes an introduction, motivation activity, presentation of content on the composition and layers of the atmosphere, a group activity where students draw and label the layers, and a concluding analysis. The goal is for students to understand the different layers of the atmosphere and phenomena that occur within each one.

A Detailed Lesson Plan in Science 7

I. Desired Outcomes

1.1 Content Standard

The learners demonstrate an understanding of the different phenomena that occur in the
atmosphere.

1.2 Performance Standard

The learners shall be able to analyze the advantage of the location of the Philippines in relation to
the climate, weather, seasons.

1.3 Learning Competencies

At the end of the lesson the students should be able to:

1. Identify the composition of the earth’s surface.

2. Describe the different layers of the atmosphere.
3. Draw and label the layers of the earth’s atmosphere.
4. Create a poster on how human activities affect the atmosphere.

II. Subject Matter

Topic: Interactions in the Atmosphere

Subtopic: Layers of the Atmosphere

References: Science, Environment, Technology and Society Book pp. 288-307

Materials: Powerpoint, Visual Aids, Laptop, Projector/Television

III. Procedure

Teacher Activity Student Activity

A. Daily Routine
1. Prayer
Let us pray first. Everyone, please stand The student will rise and one of them will lead the
and put ourselves into the holy presence of prayer.

2. Greetings.
Good Morning Class Good morning Ma’am
3. Classroom Management
Before you take your seats kindly check
the the alignment of your chairs. Pick up (The students will follow)
those pieces of paper under your chairs
4. Checking of Attendance
Class Secretary, are there any absentees
today? Yes/No

5. Review of the Past Lesson

Who can still remember our previous
topic? Anyone? Our previous topic is all about Natural Resources.

Very good! The topic that we discussed

last meeting is all about Natural Resources.

Based on the discussion that we had last

time, what are the examples of natural Some examples of natural resources are air, water,
resources? plants, animals, soil, rocks, minerals, crude oil and
other fossil fuels, sunlight, wind, car, house,
Very good! clothes, jewelry and money.

Resources such as air, water, plants,

animals, soil, rocks, minerals, crude oil and
other fossil fuels, sunlight

B. Motivation
To start our new lesson, this morning we are
going to play “4 pics and 1 word”. I will be
flashing pictures and below these are scrambled
letters which you will arrange in order to form 1 ATMOSPHERE TEMPERATURE
word that represents the pictures.

For those students who wants to answer kindly

raise your right hand if you know the answer.
GASES HEIGHT
Am I clear?

C. LESSON PROPER Yes ma’am

How do we look if we don’t have skin?

Have you ever imagined yourself skinless?

No ma’am
What do you think is the role of your skin?
The skin protects our internal organs.
Now try to imagine the earth without
atmosphere. By the way, when we say atmosphere
it is the layer of air surrounding the earth.

For you to have a better understanding about

atmosphere, I have a video presentation. All you
need to do is to watch and list down the important
details. After you watch a video I have a follow up
questions.
Are you ready class?
Yes ma’am!
(video presentation)
(the students will watch a video clip)
What is the video all about?
The video is all about atmosphere.
Based on the video that you watched, what is
atmosphere? Atmosphere is the mixture of gases that surrounds a
planet.
You’re correct!

As I said earlier, you try to imagine the earth

without atmosphere.
What do you think will happen to the planet earth? No one will survive because of intense heat.

Nice answer!

Atmosphere is composed of different gases and

some of these are abundant in the atmosphere.

Based on your previous knowledge, what are

those substances or gases that make up the
atmosphere? Nitrogen, Oxygen, Water Vapor, Argon, Carbon
Dioxide, Nitrous Oxide and Methane.
Correct!

Gases such as nitrogen, oxygen, water vapor,

argon, carbon dioxide, nitrous oxide and methane
are the composition of the atmosphere.

For those gases that are mentioned, what do you

think is the most important gases for living The most important gases for living organisms are
organisms? oxygen and carbon dioxide.

Very good!

Why do you think these two are the most

important gases? Because carbon dioxide is vital for use by plants in
photosynthesis and oxygen is a part of the air that

those layer?
The five layers of the atmosphere are
Very good! TROPOSHPERE, MESOSPHERE,
STRATOSPHERE, EXOSPHERE and
Those are the five layers of the atmosphere. THERMOSPHERE.

Before we proceed to our activity, let us define

and give the different characteristics of each layer.

The first layer that we have is Troposphere. 16-

18 km layer of the atmosphere where winds,
clouds, and water vapor are found. This is also
where weather phenomena occur. The air grows
colder as one goes up higher, as when climbing
high elevations.
The second layer is the Stratosphere wherein
weather balloons, jets fly at the bottom of this
layer. Ozone layer is here protecting earth from UV
radiation. 16-50 km above earth’s surface.
The third layer is Mesosphere where meteors or
rock fragments burn up. Extends 50-80 km.
The fourth layer is the Thermosphere. This is
the hottest layer. It is also where the space shuttle
orbits. 80-640 km.
The last layer is the Exosphere, the outermost
layer of the earth’s atmosphere. It goes from about
640-1280 km. Satellites are stationed here.

Since we already discussed the different layers

and characteristics of the atmosphere, we can now
proceed to our group activity. Are you ready to
participate and explore?

Yes mam!

D. ACTIVITY
I will group the class into four groups by
counting numbers 1 to 4. GROUP TASK:

This activity is entitled “DRAW IT UP AND GROUP 1, 2, 3 and 4 will draw a layer of the
CHECK THE LABEL” atmosphere in a creative way. In each layer draw a
picture that represents the phenomena or objects
that exist there. You need to label each layer.
Each group will draw a layer of the atmosphere in a
creative way. In each layer draw a picture that
represents the phenomena or objects that exist
there. You need to label each layer.

Once you are done with your task you will make
a yell to represent your group.

Your group outputs will be graded based on the

given criteria.

You will be given 5 minutes to finish the task.

After that you will present your group’s output.

You can go to your respective group and do it

silently.

E. ANALYSIS

The atmosphere is an important part of what

makes earth liveable. It contains gases that are
essential to life.

Based on your activity, how many layers does the

atmosphere have?
Atmosphere has 5 layers.
What are those layers? Kindly enumerate from top
to bottom.
Troposphere, Stratosphere, Mesosphere,
Very good! Thermosphere and Exosphere

Based on the activity that you did what are the

common scenes we usually observed on each
layer? Troposphere is where the weather forms;
commercial airplanes also fly on this layer that’s
why we experience a bumpy ride which we call
turbulence.
Stratosphere is where a spy jet flies because the air
is very stable. Ozone layer is also found here.
Mesosphere is where meteors and other rock
fragments burn up.
Thermosphere is where auroras are found. And
You’re correct! lastly, exosphere the outermost layer and extends
through space. It is where satellites are stationed.
F. ABSTRACTION

Why do you think atmosphere is important?

How does our atmosphere help and protect us?

G. APPLICATION

Now imagine our planet without atmosphere

what do you think will happen? How can we able (students answer varies)
to survive?
