Important Information
NOTICE
When testing and adjusting the power shift transmission, be sure the
correct procedure is used. Machines with SERIAL NOS. 23Y and 24Y
have transmissions that have THREE FORWARD speeds and ONE
REVERSE speed. Machines with SERIAL NOS. 27Y and 28Y have
transmissions that have THREE FORWARD speeds and THREE
REVERSE speeds. The testing and adjusting procedures are not the
same.
NOTE: Procedures and pressures for machines with Serial Nos. 23Y and 24Y are given on Pages
1 through 5. See Pages 7 through 12 for machines with Serial Nos. 27Y and 28Y.

When tests are made in a closed area, activate the brakes and use blocks
to prevent machine movement during the tests. Let only approved
personnel on the machine. Keep other personnel off the machine and in
view of the operator.
NOTE: All test and adjustments must be made with the oil in the power train hydraulic system at
normal temperature for operation. Be sure the linkage adjustments are correct before the tests are
made.

Do not make any adjustments to the control linkage with the engine
running.

2. Make an adjustment to rod (3) so it will be 13.33 in. (338.5 mm) long.
3. Make an adjustment to rod (4) so it will be 13.72 in. (348.4 mm) long.
4. Move shift lever (2) to the center NEUTRAL position of shift guide plate (1) as shown.

5. Move transmission lever (6) forward as far as it will go, then move the lever one detent. The
spool valve is now in the NEUTRAL position.

6. Adjust length of rod (5) so the bolt will go into hole in end of transmission lever (6). Install nut
and lockwasher.
7. Move the shift lever (2) through the entire operating range and check for detent engagement in
the transmission and for free linkage movement.
3. Adjust the length of rod (1) so distance between the center of the pins for the rod is 5.08 in.
(129 mm).
4. With the lever (4) and handle (5) in the position shown, adjust the clevis on cable (3) and
connect the clevis to the lever.

3. Move direction selector spool (3) to the FORWARD position against stop (4) by pulling out on
cable assembly (1).
4. Move speed selector spool (5) to the NEUTRAL position against stop (6) by pushing in on
cable assembly (2).

5. Check length of cable assemblies inside housing (11) as shown. Make adjustments if needed.
Dimension (A) must be 3.75 in. (95 mm).
6. Move the transmission lock lever to the ON position (pushed down). Move transmission
selector lever (12) to the FORWARD NEUTRAL position of shift guide (13), as shown.

CONTROL LINKAGE
7. Rod assembly. 8. Rod assembly. 9. Yoke. 10. Yoke. 11. Housing. A. 3.75 in. (95 mm) dimension.
7. Make adjustment, as needed, to the length of rod assembly (7) and/or yoke (10) on cable
assembly (1) until the pin can be installed in the lever.
8. Make adjustments, as needed, to the length of rod assembly (8) and/or yoke (9) on cable
assembly (2) until the pin can be installed in the lever.
9. Move the transmission lock lever to the OPERATING position (pulled up).
10. With the cover off of housing (11), move transmission selector lever (12) to all positions. A
detent must be felt in each position. Also check to make sure that the jam nuts on the cables do not
make contact with the shields on the cables.

3. Adjust the length of rod (2) so distance between the center of the pins for the rod is 5.00 in.
(127 mm).

4. With the lever (4) and handle (5) in the position shown, adjust the clevis on cable (3) and
connect the clevis to the lever.
