Plan for the Teachers

Overview

Subject: Mathematics Class: IV Week: Day: Duration: 40

Minutes

Theme Understanding shapes: Exploring basic 2-D shapes

Activities  Measuring Scale/Ruler Activity: Understand the meaning of

two-dimensional using measuring scale/ruler and the object
around. (C.W.)
 Wisdom Puzzle Activity: Explore and recompose 2d shapes
using cut outs from a wisdom puzzle. (C.W.)
 Cut the Shape Activity: Analyse a given 2d shape and
decompose/disintegrate it into two or more different 2d
shapes. (C.W.)
 Cover the Shape Activity: Critically analyse a given 2d shape
and cover its surface completely using different 2d shape cut
outs. (H.W.)

Importance/Relevance of Learning shapes helps in identifying and organizing visual

the activity information. It also helps in recognition of numbers, letters and
various other signs and symbols by making their association with
their shapes.

Student Resources Cut outs from activity sheet 1 and 2, a white sheet of paper,
measuring scale/ruler, a pair of scissors with blunt blades.
(Adult supervision is required while using scissors.)

Teacher Resources PowerPoint Presentation/Pre-recorded video

Previous Knowledge  Triangle

 Square
 Rectangle
 Parallelogram

Learning Outcomes Students will be able to:

● Understand 2d shapes.
● Examine a given 2d shape.
● Create 2d shapes using a wisdom puzzle.
● Disintegrate a 2d shape into different two or more shapes.
● Explain the various aspects of a 2d shape.
Life Skills and Values ● Analysis: The students will examine a given shape properly

while disintegrating into further two or more shapes.
● Creative thinking: The students will think creatively while
forming a 2d shape using wisdom puzzle.
● Visualization: The students will discover the same 2d shapes
made in a different manner.
● Spatial Awareness: The students will understand the position
and orientation of a 2d shape in reference to other shapes.
● Student-Teacher dialogue: The students will get the
opportunity to have an effective dialogue with the teacher in a
stimulated conducive environment.

Parental Guidelines (for C.W.)

Parents need to:

● help their child(ren) prepare cut outs from activity sheet 1 and 2 before the class as per
the instructions given on the sheets.
● help their child(ren) use scissors carefully while performing activity 2.
● guide their child(ren) to identify the shapes using numbers while performing activity 1.
● help their child(ren) use measuring scale/ruler carefully without damaging the screen.
● help the child(ren) examine different 2d shapes while performing the activities.
● additionally, involve their child(ren) in creating more 2d shapes like a flower, man
standing or running, animals, house, etc using the wisdom puzzle.

Parental Guidelines (for H.W.)

Parents need to:

● help their child(ren) prepare cut outs from the worksheet as per the instructions given on
the sheets.
● guide their child(ren) to complete the worksheet as per the instructions given to them.
