Kihaguzi Town.
Access Roads
Submit method statement for construction of access roads and show how pavement layers
will be laid.
The access roads are to have the same pavement layers as the main road.
Submit the standard Junction designs that show the extent of pavement layers.
Submit revisions of already approved junctions if the pavement layers are above the head
wall or if the asphalt width is reduced.
Humps
The newly applied paint is already fading. We need to consider a possibility of changing the
paint or find a good solution.
The quality of bitumen applied to fill joints between humps and road is not good. It might
lead to potholes near the hump. We need to fill joints with good quality bitumen.
Guard Rails
Contractor should together with consultant survey team confirm the depth of fill around
Km3 or Km4 (Lot 7A). If its 3m and above, then we provide guardrail.
Bokwe Town.
Clean up the remaining materials (rubbish) near the reworked hump on the LHS.
Remove the soil hipped near the access culvert where stone pitching has been finished (RHS)
Clean up the stone dust spread on the road surface and in the side drain.
Kichumbanyombo Gate.
Demolish the existing structure and start road diversion works this week.
RE advised that Contractor adds another team special for the gate and the road.
The gate design needs to be comfirmed.
LOT 7B.
Cut the exposed Geogrid along the edge of asphalt very quickly for works that have been
reworked.
The soil, unused asphalt that is on the same level or above the level of the edge of asphalt
should be removed. This soil doesn’t allow water to drain off from the road to the trench but
instead it allows water to penetrate in to the road at the edge and caused cracks.
The soil should be replaced with top soil up to the level of the bottom of asphalt. The topsoil
should be trimmed to allow water drain off the road.
Murchison falls.
Some kerbstones should be removed to allow drainage of water in to the drop inlet.
All routes that drain water from the road to the drop inlet should be finished in such a way
that there wont be erosion of the backfilled soil near the drop inlet.
The land from the edges of the kerbstone towards the edges of the water falls should also be
finished
We need to confirm if the current paint on the kerbstones is final. The current paint is not
good and shiny.
LOT8A.
The sign posts and road marking posts have different information at the same location. E.g
Buliisa 21 for sign post and mark post reads Bulisa 20. Then Buliisa 7 for sign post and 06 for
mark post.
Trim topf soil of the edges of asphalt to allow easy flow of water from road.
Contractor to send team to first remove the distance sign on sign post so as not to mislead
road users as the mistake is solved.
Buliisa Town
Soil & water in the median to be removed. Contractor promised to start tomorrow.
Water in the opened up section waiting for asphalt to be removed so as not to spoil road.
Confirm which U-drain typical section design was approved. RE says the U-drain design he
remembers had bigger wall thickness from down and it became smaller upwards.
The design contractor is following on site will not resist soil pressure from the sides.
RE advised we first rework culverts as we wait for confirmation of approved U-drain typical
section. Or we can do both access culverts and U-drain if typical section is confirmed at the
same time.
Demolish all access culverts marked with X
Wanseko Town
0+246 (LOT8B)
Contractor need to plan to construct end structures for the culvert at this location.
There is a broken water pipe near the trench taking water from the culvert. The water is
weakening the soil. It has to be repaired quickly.
Trim soil that is close to the top of trench so that it stops falling in the trench.
Open a small drain to drain off water collecting at the nearby house to the trench.
Put delineators (2 no). where the trench meets a road. This will alert the community that
there is a ditch and they won’t fall in it.
Put pedestrian slabs to enable community to cross the ditch.
The invert for the cross culvert that receives water from the trench is higher than the level of
the ditch. The cross culvert to be reworked as soon as possible.
This location has a big pool of water. RE advised that we do stone pitching on the slopes for
the entire section and it should be slightly above the head wall of the cross culvert.
Contractor advised to use top soil instead of the marrum that was used.
KM 4+004 –K4+500 (LOT8B)
The levels for K4+004 –K4+187 LHS, the typical cross section and the trench should be
submitted.
Stone pitching works between K4+187 – K4+500 LHS should start.
Access culverts to be demolished should first be reworked before continuing with stone
pitching. A lot of water is in the finished stone pitching because there is no culvert and this
will weaken the stone pitching. This has been noticed on that RHS. RE has threatened to
reject sections of stone pitching that are not drained for a long time.
Mubaku Road.
RE has advised that we construct culvert at K3+200. There is a lot of water from upstream
and it will damage the earthworks if we don’t put culvert now.
Jetty Road.
Paraa Access.
Open earth drains for flow of water so that it doesn’t damage the road.
Schedule of service duct should be submitted quickly.
At K 1+850 There is a possibility of trapping water upstream and diverting it away from the
road in to an existing channel. However, the channel is eroded and adding it more water
would increase erosion and in future affect the road. Contractor needs to protect the
channel from eroding by using gabion or any other means. Contractor can also avoid the
channel and provide a cross culvert. This is a decision of contractor.
LOT 8A.
Inspector claims there are many cracks on the overburden and the base between K14+400 –
21+000 LHS.
RE advises us to trim the overburden to allow free drainage of water off the base.
For Animal crossing Contractor to clean the trimmed area adjacent to the pavement layers to
avoid dampening of water in to the earth work layers.
