US-IT Restaurant Technology Infrastructure ABS 2.0 – Installation Guide

1. Overview
This document is designed to define the set of operations necessary for the installation of the
equipment at its site.

2. Pre-requisites
Below are the pre-requisites that needed to complete before the installation of ABS 2.0 (Hardware)

Software Pre-requisite
 The store is on SP9 or higher version
 Restaurant Builder is on version 6.33.0606 or above

Cabling Connections
This section defines cabling connections required for installing ABS 2.0 at the drive-thru or front
counter. The focus will be defining biscuit boxes required, connections to the patch panel, and
topology.

This section should be reviewed before any cables are run to ensure all requirements are met.

2.2.1 Installation
Two additional Cat5e data home runs are required to support the ABS 2.0 equipment in a new
biscuit box. Refer to the most recent edition of the Cabling Standards for guidelines on best
practices for running home runs.

2.2.2 Topology
The below topology diagram depicts general placement and connections required for ABS 2.0 at
the Drive-Thru Present Window and the Front Counter.

Note: No spare runs are denoted on the topology.

Figure 1: Drive-thru Present Booth

Figure 2: Front Counter

2.2.3 Biscuit Boxes

The ABS 2.0 will require a new biscuit box to be installed. The installer should run two new home
runs and install the biscuit box where the ABS 2.0 will be located, depending on the setup of the
restaurant. One run will be the POS connection for the ABS 2.0 and the second run will be used as
a spare.

If the restaurant is a new build, then the patch panel should follow the new standard set by the
2018 update to the Cabling Standards. If the ABS 2.0 is being installed in an existing restaurant,
then the device should connect to any open port on the patch panel.

Network Setup
1. Connect a patch cable from the yellow port on the new biscuit box to the LAN port on the ABS.

Figure 3: Network Connection on the ABS 2.0

2. In the Back Office, connect a patch cable in into the Patch Panel in the port that corresponds
with the port in use by the ABS on the Biscuit Box. The other end of the patch cable will connect
to an open port on the POS Switch (Network 1.0) or any open port between 5-40 on either Switch
1 or Switch 2 (Network 2.0).

US-IT Restaurant Technology Infrastructure ABS 2.0 – Installation Guide

 For Existing Stores: Patch cable connects to the patch panel in the corresponding port
of the biscuit box in use
 For New\Rebuild Stores: Device should connect to port 62 on the Patch Panel which
corresponds with the biscuit box that was installed.

Note: Label the patch cable after completing the connections using the labeling standards
mentioned in the most recent edition of the Cabling Standards.

3. There are two methods for hardwiring the ABS 2.0 to the restaurant’s internet service
a. Network 1.0: POS Switch - The Network 1.0 Switches may be located in the office,
outside the office or in the Technology Closet. The Cat 5 network cable connecting the
POS switch with the FC-xx-x or DT-xx-x (depending on the ABS location) on the Patch
Panel should be installed on any open port on POS Switch.
b. Network 2.0: Aruba POS Switch - The Aruba POS switch is a part of the Network 2.0
installation. The Network 2.0 Switches may be located in the office, outside the office
or in the Technology Closet.
The cat 5 patch cable connected from Patch Panel to the Aruba POS Switch should be
installed on Switch 1 in the first open port between ports 5 through 40. If there are no
open ports on Switch 1, then use the first open port on switch 2 between ports 5 through
40

RFM Configuration:
The store needs to work with the RFM Administrator and have relevant menu items activated for
ABS2.0 from the below list. It is recommended to activate the Menu items in advance for ABS2.0 to
function as expected after the physical installation of the ABS2.0 is completed.

Apart from activating the relevant menu items from the list, all the relevant cup sizes and Pour type
(highlighted in green) needs to be activated by RFM administrator.

3. Physical Installation of the device:

Physical installation, connections, and configuration of the drinks on the ABS device is performed by
Cornelius.

Note: Cornelius will set up the IP for ABS2.0 at onsite (in the restaurant), contact the POS Supplier
supporting this installation for more information. IP address is set to 10.x.y.88 (for Drive Thru ABS) or
10.x.y.89 (for Front Counter ABS), x and y are the Global IP’s for the store.

Depending on the store requirement, a store can have both Front Counter and Drive Thru ABS.

4. Post Hardware Installation

After the physical installation of the device by Cornelius, POS Supplier needs to configure the store for
ABS 2.0:

MCT (Manager Configuration Tool)

Note: With ABS 2.0, MCT (Manager Configuration Tool) is no longer used to configure the drinks for
the restaurant. This is now done via RFM (covered in section 2.4) and on the ABS device (performed
by Cornelius).

Restaurant Builder which is covered in section 4.2 will be used to configure ABS 2.0 for the store.

1. Open Restaurant Builder

2. Navigate to Registers section by selecting the Registers link on the left navigation panel
3. In the Register selection section, click Next>> button
4. On the “Select the registers to configure” screen, ensure the appropriate register has a check-
mark to the left of the register
 If configuring a Front Counter ABS, ensure NewPOS02 is selected
 If configuring a Drive Thru ABS, ensure NewPOS14 is selected
5. Click Configure Selected
6. Scroll down to the section ABS Model

8. Scroll to the bottom of the page and click Submit

9. If applicable, repeat the process for the other ABS
10. On the left navigation panel, click Generate Configs and wait for configurations to successfully
generate

11. Scroll down and click Next and wait for the push screen to display

Note: After clicking Next, Restaurant Builder may appear to freeze. This is expected as it checks for
all online devices.

12. On the Push Files screen, clear the “Application” and “Select All” check-mark
13. If configuring a Front Counter ABS, ensure NewPOS02 is selected
14. If configuring a Drive Thru ABS, ensure NewPOS14 is selected
15. If this is a new ABS for the restaurant, ensure NewPOS01 and Backroom are both selected
 Example: If the store has had a drive-thru ABS and is now adding a Front Counter ABS, it will
be necessary to push to Backroom and NewPOS01
 If the store has had a legacy drive-thru ABS and is changing to a NextGen drive-thru ABS, it
is not required to push to Backroom and NewPOS01

Note: Pushing to Backroom and NewPOS01 will take down the restaurant; ensure the store is
prepared for this

16. Once both What to push and Where to push are properly setup, click Push

Figure 9

Note: After clicking Push, Restaurant Builder may appear to freeze. This is expected.

17. Monitor the register and ensure push completes successfully, and the register application starts
back up.
18. Once the push is complete, it will switch to another screen that shows the Push was complete.
Restaurant Builder can now be closed.
19. Once the register is up, verify is ABS 2.0 is working after the push.

5. Troubleshooting

ABS 2.0 hardware is under a 2-year parts & labor warranty, and any store that requires service to the
unit (non-POS issues) and for any drink configuration issues on the device, follow the normal
troubleshooting steps i.e. creating an incident with ATOS.

For ATOS use only:
