Firstly, to begin integrity is a very important word when it comes to honesty. As a matter fact

integrity is define as being honest and having powerful ethical standards. In my country Trinidad and

Tobago, there are work related jobs that don’t have or practice integrity. One of the work-related

issues in Trinidad and Tobago in the local news that portrays lack of integrity is the public servant

department. This is a very main topic in our country right now, where the workers decided to protest

and shut down their operation to fight for their rights.

This shows lack of integrity because basic ethical standards were not applied followed by not being

honest with the workers of the public service department. The particular reason for the

circumstance is that if the government had issued a better percentage rate then maybe the day that

most workers decided not work because of the 2% increase in their salary shows how unethical it

was of losing a whole day of work in the certain public service department. Also, the cost of living

has been increasing, that is food prices are going up, market produce and the 2% increase will not

alleviate these living standards in these times.

It also shows lack of integrity because these workers are working very hard and the workers are not

satisfied with their salary, and their voices should be heard and should be paid for the hard work

that they outputted and that is only fair. Not to mention that some individuals may also be

unproductive, and most of the times these workers work at the rate for salary that they are getting

paid. Increasing it maybe at a higher percentage may motivate public service workers to work

harder, and enjoy doing their jobs.

The avenues I would say that are in the short story above are:1) Claiming credit for others and

2) In group favoritism.

1) Claiming credit for others- I said this because the public servants’ workers are doing what is

require in order to fulfil and do the work at their best or most of them are. We tend to see

and hear what leaders says, but we don’t know what is actually going on behind closed
doors, and leaders of the country and managers may take credit for the work that the

employees did.

2) In group favoritism- The reason I mention this as an avenue of unintentional unethical

behavior is because certain employees and other governmental institution are getting a

higher salary increase in these similar departments while the public servants are only getting

2%, and that is unfair. Everyone should be treated fairly and not be treated because of

favoritism.

From a Teleological standpoint I would not support the behavior, reason being that according to the

different perspective in the teleological framework, the ethical egoism to be exact. Which focuses on

self-interest, and not thinking about the other people that can be affected through these two

unintentional unethical behaviors. For example, claiming credit for others as the behavior, this could

either be right or wrong. Suppose the superior of the public service department is taking credit for

the work that the employees performed.

What really matters is the potential short term and long-term outcome. If someone is taking all the

credit for the job that other workers did in the workplace then they might use it as a way to get a

higher position on the job. However, in a teleological view remember to know what are the

consequences and ask yourself would it significantly harm the workers who actually did the physical

work? Some Workers might not feel to work because they are not getting any credit, and even if the

persons who is taking credit might benefit positively and their motive is to get a higher position then

the act of taking claiming credit was wrong because the workers would feel left out, and I do not

support this behavior.

Deontological standpoint- in a deontological view, deontologist believe that right and wrong have

nothing to do with pain, pleasure or consequences. Even though in group favoritism is not a good

act, morally it can lead to something great. In the existentialism perspective, choices should not be

made for pleasure or pain, but include the individual choice and rights together with their freewill.
