What I Can Do

Direction: In this time of pandemic, it has been a part of the new normal and OOTD
(Outfit of the Day) to wear face masks. Your task is to sew face masks. Using your
knowledge on the different sewing tools and how they are used, ask your
parents/guardians in your household to assist you in doing this task. Ask them for
old, clean clothes or let them ask cuts of fabric that are no longer in use from dress
shops near your place.

Reminders:
Let your elders supervise you in doing this task.
Keep sharp objects in proper places when not in use.

10
Materials Required:
 Pieces of cloth for the mask’s outer and lining (measurements specified in the
table below.
 3/8 inch elastic (garter) for ties
 Needle
 Thread
 Pins
In the table below, “W” stands for width and “L” stands for the length of the fabric
piece to be cut.

PROCEDURE:

1. Cut the mask outer and lining pieces, referring to the

table given. Here, the mask outer is the floral fabric
and the lining is the polka dot fabric.

2. Fold the mask outer in half width wise, aligning the

edges and mark the center of the upper and lower
edges. Do the same with the mask lining.

3. Open the two pieces and keep them layered, with the
right sides together and center marks aligning. Pin
the two pieces together along the aligned edge s.

4. Thread your needle and hand sew the two pieces

together by a running stitch, along the two pinned
edge. Take care to keep the stitches small and
uniform and also to secure the stitches by a few

the wrong side and press.

casing for the elastic ties (garter).

10. Pin along the edge of the folds.

12
10. Hand sew the two casings shut, using
a running stitch.

12. Take the required length of the elastic

(garter) referring top the table and insert it
through the two casings using a safety pin.

Resourcefulness 20%
Appropriate/proper use of sewing tools 30%
Accuracy and neatness 10%

TOTAL 100%
