Earth's Rotation and Revolution

This document outlines a lesson plan on the rotation and revolution of the Earth. The objectives are for students to analyze questions about rotation and revolution, visualize the differences between the two movements, and act out the movements. The lesson includes activities like demonstrating rotation and revolution, identifying statements as either, and answering questions to explain the concepts. The key points are that rotation is the Earth's spin on its axis, revolution is its orbit around the Sun, and together they create day/night and seasons.

lead the prayer.

Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed

Checking of Attendance
Students, who is absent today? No No one is absent today, teacher.
one is absent today that’s good!

B. Review
Before we proceed to our new lesson, Our topic yesterday is about
let us first have a recap. What is our _____________________.
lesson yesterday? What is it about?

C. Motivation
Let’s group you into two groups. The
first group will be staying here and
the other will be in the other side.

Who wants to play a game? We want to play a game teacher!

This is “Complete Me”
Here are the mechanics: The students will do the activity
 There are puzzles you need to fix.
 After that you will post your work
on the board.
 The first group to fix it will
receive chips.

D. Engagement
The puzzle revealed the words
Earth’s Rotation and Revolution.
That is right! Our topic today is about
the two movements of the Earth.

But before we proceed to our

discussion. Let’s have an activity.
This activity is entitled “Act Like My
WORLD”

The mechanics are: (The students will do their assigned task

 I will call students to act out like and participate actively)
the earth and the sun.
 You will watch them carefully.
 I will ask questions after they
demonstrate.
 Every correct answer is
equivalent to chip.

Student No. 1 (Earth)

Demonstrate the rotation and
revolution of the earth.

Student No. 2 (Sun)

Will be the center of the Earth’s
movement.

Questions:
The students will answer the questions
o What is revolution?
o What is revolution?
o What is the turn or spin of the
earth on its axis?
o What do you called the movement
that the earth orbits the sun?

E. Exploration
This activity is “IDENTIFY ME:
Rotation or Revolution”.

Here are the mechanics:

 I will group you into four groups.
 Each group will have their
illustration and other materials.
 You need to identify whether my
statement is rotation or
revolution.
 The group that will have the
highest scores will receive chips.
Ready?

Statements: The students will answer and participate

o The students jog in an oval track. actively
o The top is spinning around so
fast.
o The dogs are running in circle on
the merry go round while it is
spinning.
o The clock has two hands moving
clockwise.
o The loading logo has a mouse
running besides the cat.
o The octopus likes to swim and
turns around.

F. Explanation
You see the sun sets right? And if you The student will listen carefully to the
discussion.
get up early enough maybe you see
the sun rise too. But have you ever
wondered if the sun sets and rise
every day, where does it go when we
can’t see it?

Well nowhere, it is actually us who

goes somewhere. Because we are on
earth and earth is always turning or
spinning on its axis.

Earth has an invisible line which we

called the axis. Axis is an invisible
line around which an object rotates or
spins. Earth spins around on its axis
like a top. This movement is called
rotation. Earth’s rotation gives us
day and night. If you are located on
the side facing the sun it is day and
when on the other side obviously its
night.

Actually earth is moving more ways

than one. At the same time the earth
rotating on its axis, it also orbits the
sun. This movement is what we
called revolution. One full orbit
around the sun is one revolution and
earth takes 365 days or one year to
complete a one revolution.

As the earth is both revolving and

rotating it is not sitting straight up, it
is actually tilted over 23.5 degree.
And it cause the one side of the earth
tilted over the sun while the other is
leaning away. It only means that
different parts of the earth gets
different amount of sunlight.

The earth creates pattern as it travels

around the sun. This pattern created
seasons. If the part of world you
living in is leaning over the sun it is
summer while the part that is leaning
away it is winter. And in between
those are autumn and spring.

If the world is not tilted we will

always have the same season over
and over again.

G. Elaboration The students will answer the questions

o What are the two movements of asked by the teacher.
the earth?
o What is rotation? Revolution?
o What is the duration of earth’s
rotation? Revolution?
o Rotation cause? Revolution
cause?
o What would happen if the earth is
not tilted?

H. Evaluation
Visualize the difference between rotation and revolution of the earth.

IV. Assignment
In a short bond paper, make a table and list down all the important information about
rotation and revolution.
