ESSENTIALISM PHILOSOPHY
Essentialism Philopsophy refers to a “basic education” approach wherein teachers make an
effort to instill and let the students acquire the most basic and essentials of academic knowledge,
skills, character development and teach them the essentials they need to live in this modern world.
Essentialists Teachers make sure to embed traditional moral values and virtues that the students
need to become a model citizens in the community.

Moreover, Essentialists Teachers teaches the basic subjects such as; Mathematics,
Literature, Natural Science, Foreign Language and History. Thus, the teaching strategies commonly
used are the following; 1.) Use of Instructional Strategies, 2.)Lecture, 3.) Memorization, 4.)
Homework, 5.) Teacher and subject centered and 6.) Mastery Learning. Further, this philosophy
includes learning the essentials of basic education such as the fundamental R’s ; Reading, Writing,
Arithmetic and Right conduct.

PROGRESSVISM PHILOSOPHY
Progressvism Philopsophy is a belief that students learn through their own experiences.
Hence, children learns best when pursuing their own interest and satisfying their own needs
“learning by doing” thus, develop learners into becoming enlightened and inteligent citizens in the
community.

Moreover, this philosophy measures changes in learning that are obvious, measurable, can
be seen, observed and validated. Ideas are tested by active experimentation and become a piece of
information. This approach can be done through hands-on projects, experiencial methods, strong
emphasis on problem solving and critical thinking, group work and development of social skills.

CONSTRUCTIVISM PHILOSOPHY
Constructivism Philosophy is a belief that people construct their own understanding and
knowledge of the world through experiencing things and reflecting on those experiences. It is to
develop intrinsically motivated and independent learners equipped with learning skills for them to
be able to construct knowledge and make meaning of them. Learners communicate with each other
and share their understandings, feelings, knowledge, and experience to come up with new
knowledge.

Moreover, Constructivism Teachers provide the students with data or experiences that
allow them to hypothesize, predict, manipulate, pose questions and research. The teacher become
the facilitator and the learners are encouraged to interact, exchange views and experience and
construct knowledge that are based on their needs thus, creates a collaborative environement
where students are actively involved in their own learning.
BEHAVIORISM PHILOSOPHY
Behaviorism Philosophy is a theory of learning in which all behaviors are learned and
acquired through interaction with the environment in a process called “conditioning”. Based on the
beliefs behaviours can be measured, trained and changed thus, it is only concerned with obervable “
stimulus-response behavior” as they studied in a systematic and observable manner. Further, the
basic assumption of this philosophy is that “all behaviors are learned from the environment” which
emphsizes the role of environmental factors in influencing behavior to the near exclusion of innate
or inherited factors.
Behaviorist Teachers teach students to react and respond favorably to various stimuli in the
environment and arranges envrironmental conditions and provide reinforcement and punishment.
Further, repetition and positive reinforcement should go hand-in-hand with behavioural learning
theory to show the students why they should continue that behavior. Motivation also plays an
important role in this philosophy thus, positive and negative reinforcement are learner’s motivator.
