Paulo Coelho was born in Rio de Janeiro in August 1947. Throughout his life he has always loved literature, but from a young age he parents encouraged him to become a lawyer, after attending law school he published a few unsuccessful novels, his sixth novel, The Alchemist, however, soon became a Brazilian bestseller. Currently the Alchemist has sold over 65 million copies, been published in 67 languages and even managed to receive a Guinness World Record. Coelho currently lives with his wife Christina in a combination of their homes in Europe and South America.
