B. RATIONALE
Reading is one of the important skills in English and Filipino subject and it gives
many benefits for us. Reading is the window of the world. By reading, people can get more
knowledge and information from books, magazines, newspapers, and others.

In reading learning process, the student must understand what the content of text
to get the information from it. Reading is a process to transfer the science from book to
brain from writer to reader, and this information will not receive with the readers if they
did not understand what the content of the text.
In Grade VI, English is the medium of instruction in almost all of the subjects.
Thus, comprehension is a vital tool in processing the bulk and complexities of knowledge,
information and skills in various learning activities that endeavors the learners progress.

In the recent class reading assessment conducted among Grade VI- Courteous
learners, It was noted that 8 out of 23 or 34% are non – readers, 3 out of 23 or 14% are
frustration level, 4 out of 23 or 17% are instructional level and 8 out of 23 or 34% are
independent level.

In my class, there were 15 out of 23 or 66% needs full intervention. Some learners
can read words but they cannot comprehend it very well.

Project I CARE is an attempt to help above mentioned learners to develop reading

readiness skills, beginning reading skills, and reading comprehension skills to provide
them opportunities to improve academic performance in all learning areas for School Year
2022-2023.

C. OBJECTIVES
This activity aims to;
1. Enhance the reading ability of the students.
2. Develop among students the importance of reading and its benefits.
3. Increase students’ participation.
4. Increase comprehension level among student-responses.
5. Ease of lesson delivery to the teachers.
6. Strengthen school and community partnership in sharing accountability
in improving quality education resulting to improved learners’ performance.

D. EXPECTED OUTCOMES, BENEFICIARIES AND IMPACT IN EDUCATION

The remediation activity will be beneficial to Grade VI-Courteous learners by
increasing their comprehension level through decoding meaning and by using short
selections that could capture their attention. It is expected that the learners can read with
fluency phrases, short sentences and short stories consisting words with short vowel
sound and answer who, what and where questions about them. Also there will be positive
result in the students’ participation in other subject since most of the subject uses
English as medium of instruction.

The reading ability expected to develop among the learners will be of help in
accomplishing learning activities in school and at home. Improved reading skills will be
their weapon in improving their academic performance in later grade levels.
